SUMMARY:Peaks & Pints to host celebration of life for Barry Williams July 8
DESCRIPTION:Peaks & Pints to host celebration of life for Barry Williams July 8\nOn Tuesday\, June 25\, heartbreaking news quickly made its way around Tacoma and beyond that Barry Williams — a lifelong Tacoman\, athlete\, longtime wine steward\, bartender\, and youngest of five sons — had recently passed. Peaks & Pints will host a celebration of life for Barry Williams from 4-6 p.m. Monday\, July 8. Proceeds will be donated to Barry’s family for funeral and memorial expenses. \nBarry’s family requested a memorial be held at Peaks since Barry was our first employee\, hired a year before we opened in November 2016. Barry enjoyed sharing his passion for wine\, beer\, and food with guests. His shifts were packed with industry friends and people he met through his lifelong adventures in Tacoma. He only wanted the best for his customers. He never missed a shift. \nBarry was a treasure\, and he influenced a generation of industry folks. It’s not a conspicuous lineage. It’s one that quietly lives today in the veins of the city’s watering holes: servers\, bartenders\, and owners. Barry spent three decades working at QFC Foods\, allowing him to retire as a wine steward. But he didn’t retire. He grabbed shifts around the city\, including a permanent Tuesday night shift at Peaks for nearly eight years. He had industry stories for days\, often accompanied by a mic drop\, that included hangs with winery and brewery celebrities\, wine and beer whale bottles\, and his beloved Oregon Brewers Festival\, which he attended every year. Stories of his garden and high school sports conquests would often work into conversations. \nBarry was a cherished member of his community\, who had a way of making you feel like the most important person in the room\, and will be remembered as a loving son\, brother\, father\, husband\, uncle\, and a beloved friend. \n“We will remember Barry for his kindness\, sense of humor\, and the constant joy he brought to those around him\,” wrote Tacoma Mayor Victoria R. Woodards in an official recognition of Barry Williams. “The recognition is an opportunity to allow his legacy to continue to inspire us all.” \nPlease join Barry’s family from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday\, July 8 to share stories and photographs over appetizers\, but everyone is also welcome to journal\, drop off flowers\, relax\, and reminisce all day in Peaks’ Events Room. Peaks & Pints is at 3816 N. 26th St. in Tacoma’s Proctor District.

SUMMARY:Have A Heart Night
DESCRIPTION:Have A Heart Night\n“Hey buddy. You have a second?” Parkway Tavern Manager Sean Jackson asked\, motioning me over to one of the high-top tables by the Peaks and Pints coolers. \nJackson eyes were glossy\, which usually means he’s holding a Cantillon or some other crazy delicious lambic. \nNot this time. \n“I need your help\,” he choked out. “One of the baby girls in the neighborhood is in dire straits. I want to help raise money for her medical bills. You in?” \n“Yup\,” I replied really not needing any more explanation. \nJackson painted the tragic picture. Healthy\, active\, stubborn\, funny 12-year-old Ella was doing summer — volunteer camp counselor for Metro Parks\, swimming\, babysitting\, and hanging with sister\, Olivia\, enjoying The Office\, Billy Joel and their dogs. Mid-August she suddenly vomited. No symptoms; a diet change didn’t improve the situation. In fact\, it became worse. Her family history put her heart in the spotlight. After weeks and a steady line of shoulder shrugs by medical professionals\, an echocardiogram revealed she had severe heart failure\, dilated cardiomyopathy. She had been dying for weeks due to a lack of blood flow to her internal organs\, which all showed signs of damage. \nMary Bridge and Seattle Children’s Hospital summoned their best\, holding her Ella’s hand through procedures and surgeries many adults couldn’t handle. A second — yes second\, grueling open-heart surgery attaching another left ventricular assist device — happened a month ago in which Ella’s heart stopped for several minutes. The device allows her to function again\, even work math problems in a hospital school. \nToday\, Ella is waiting for her third surgery to receive a healthier hearty. Her parents have partnered with the non-profit Children’s Organ Transplant Association\, or COTA — experts at raising tax deductible funds to help pay for\, well\, life. COTA doesn’t take a portion of the donations; all donations go directly to the families they support to cover transplant related expenses. \nThe two blubbering beer dorks agreed to host simultaneous fundraisers\, partnering with craft breweries that have bigger hearts than their mash tuns. \n“Do you think Ben over at Rainier Growlers will want to help?” Jackson asked. \n“F@#% yeah\,” we said in unison \nIndeed\, Ben Chase is in\, joining the Parkway Tavern and Peaks & Pints at 6 p.m. Wednesday\, Oct. 30. The Parkway will tap a treasure from Georgetown Brewing\, Rainier Growlers will pour 7 Seas Brewing\, and Peaks & Pints will have Double Mountain Brewery flowing from our Western red cedar tap log. One hundred percent of the money will go toward Ella’s medical expense bills via COTA.

SUMMARY:Tacoma Summer of Love Craft Beer Festival
DESCRIPTION:Tie dye\, LSD\, free love\, peace protests\, music and meditation. Five decades ago\, San Francisco became the center of counterculture\, and Peaks and Pints will celebrate the Summer of Love with Tacoma breweries Saturday\, Aug. 12\, one of many special events we have planned during Tacoma Beer Week Aug. 6-12\, 2017. Tacoma breweries will brew a special beer inspired by their favorite hippie songs of 1967 and we’ll pour them from our Western red cedar tap log while our jukebox pumps out what was heard squealing out windows from Hashbury lofts and bouncing out of radios in Carnaby Street clothing shops back during that special bohemian summer. Narrows Brewing Company will brew their take on “Lucy In The Sky with Diamonds” called “Tangerine Trees And Marmalade Skies.”  The brewers at Wingman Brewers are happy together so it only makes sense they’ll be brewing “Hoppy Together.” Harmon Brewery & Restaurant has flowers behind their ears and “Shandy Fields Forever” in a keg. Pacific Brewing & Malting Co. trips out with “White Rabbit\,” a witbier. Odd Otter Brewing Company will brew a white IPA called “Summer Ekuanot” heavy on Australian hops\, man. What will Tacoma Brewing Co. create? What will Tacoma Brewing Co. create? Several other Tacoma breweries will also join our full day of counter-culture brews fueled by music — far and away the thing that most baffled the straights and illuminated the believers during the Summer of Love. A specific taplist will follow soon. \nTACOMA SUMMER OF LOVE CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL\, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.\, Saturday\, Aug. 12\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints hosts Washington Hob Mob Triple IPAs
DESCRIPTION:You can’t explain triple IPAs to your grandparents and you can’t explain it to the religiously terrified and you can’t describe it to those who\, no matter what you say\, refuse to see such a beer style as anything other than some sort of freaky-deaky boozy Sam Calagione-worshipping Pliny-romp thing. Peaks and Pints will host the Washington Hob Mob Triple IPA Roadshow\, which means will tap a robust collection of triple IPAs brewed by Washington state breweries. We’ll pour 5-ounce pours beginning at 11 a.m. when we open until they’re gone. Will feature delicious creations by 7 Seas\, Reuben’s Brews\, Sound Brewing\, Snoqulamie Falls Brewing and many others. \nFor a list of triple IPA Mobsters pouring at Peaks and Pints\, click here. \nWASHINGTON HOP MOB TRIPLE IPA ROADSHOW\, 11 a.m. Friday\, Feb. 3\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:SudsPop with Pacific Brewing & Malting Co.
DESCRIPTION:Music makes everything better. Jack Johnson’s “Cleaning Dishes” turns the mundane task of cleaning dishes into a much more enjoyable task. Washing the truck? Rose Royce’s “Car Wash” inspires you to even clean the mud flaps. Throw out dead plants to Paul McCartney & Wing’s “Live and Let Die” and you’ll be kicking back with a craft beer much quicker. \nBeer and music go together like Andy Dick and Viennese Waltz gracefully dancing across the floor. Tunes blast in most breweries as the wort flows through the hop back. The men and women brewing beers are true artists\, utilizing ingenuity\, incredible focus and a passion for perfection … as music wafts through the air as thick as the smell of hot\, soggy grain. \nSince Peaks and Pints loves music AND craft beer\, we’d thought it would be fun to formally mix the two every Monday night. We’re calling the series SudsPop\, asking breweries to supply music playlists and craft beer\, as well as host activities such as trivia and games of skill. \nWe’re kicking off SudsPop at 6 p.m. Monday\, Jan. 2 with Pacific Brewing & Malting Co. Every Monday in January\, the downtown Tacoma brewery’s sales director Andy Kenser will take you on a four-hour musical journey\, loading up the jukebox with treasures\, as well as handing out treasures to winners of the night’s contest. And\, of course\, a delicious keg of Pacific Brewing beer will be pouring from our Western red cedar tap log. \nThe following are Pacific Brewing & Malting Co.’s SudsPop musical theme nights and corresponding contests: \nMonday\, Jan. 2\, 6 p.m.: Positive Vibrations with 7 p.m. coloring contest; \nMonday\, Jan. 9\, 6 p.m.: Jimmy Page’s Birthday Party with 7 p.m. trivia; \nMonday\, Jan. 16\, 6 p.m.: Prohibition Begins with 7 p.m. house of cards contest; \nMonday\, Jan. 23\, 6 p.m.: Love The 1980s with 7 p.m. ’80s dance contest; \nMonday\, Jan. 30\, 6 p.m.: Fight The Power with 7 p.m. mystery beer flight contest. \n“It’s going to be music to our beers\,” says Kenser. \nIndeed. \nSUDSPOP WITH PACIFIC BREWING & MALTING CO.\, 6 p.m.\, every Monday in January\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover
