SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Party
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Party \nIn 2011\, Tacoma musician and homebrewer turned professional brewer Matt Coughlin and four friends pointed their compass toward the Olympic National Park. They made their way through rugged terrain\, past thick rainforest and across melting snow along the Bailey Range Traverse. Trekking between Mt. Ferry and Pulitzer Peak the hikers came across the most enchanting spot to pitch a tent. They called it “Cool Camp.” Coughlin recounted his magical backpacking adventure as he and his fellow Double Mountain Brewery brewers guided Peaks and Pints through the brewing process of our new house IPA. As he recounted glorious mountain peaks and green valleys while we stirred hops inside the Hood River brewery we knew our IPA had a name: Cool Camp IPA. \nPeaks and Pints celebrates its two-year anniversary at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Nov. 1\, with the release of Cool Camp IPA. While it would be a near impossible task to duplicate the success and deliciousness of our first anniversary house IPA\, Two Beers Brewing’s Proctor Peaks IPA\, we knew Double Mountain Brewery had the chops\, and the hops\, to pull it off. Besides\, both Coughlin and owner Matt Swihart adore music and the Great Outdoors\, which is also Peaks and Pints’ jam. \n“As a nod to our mutual love of the outdoors and of beer\, we collaborated with an IPA that would go well with a gathering of friends\, sitting around a fire and chatting about adventures\,” says Coughlin. “Simcoe and Centennial — one of my favorite hop combinations — take the lead\, with substantial additions throughout the boil — 2\, 5\, and 3 pounds to be exact\, Tacoma’s area code — with more in the hop back and dry hop. Kolsch yeast provides a lightly fruited character\, supporting the hops and letting them shine. There’s enough weight in the malt bill to let some biscuit and cereal through but it’s light enough to carry along the adventure. Fermentation went well\, drying out to 1.5 degree Plato\, making for a clean\, easy-drinking IPA with a wonderfully dank evergreen and citrus aroma. Mellow on the bitterness\, high on aroma\, and easy to have more than one.” \nThursday\, Nov. 1\, when we tap the Double Mountain Cool Camp IPA at our second anniversary party\, you will witness the 6.6-percent\, 55 IBU autumn sunset orange beauty. You’ll breathe in its juicy evergreen\, ripe tangerine\, ruby red grapefruit and resin aroma. Your eyes will grow big as you sip Cool Camp’s ripe red citrus\, temperate forest that eases in to some melon and biscuit. By the second sip\, you’ll nod with approval of its clean pine\, bright fruit\, melon and mellow bitterness. \nPeaks and Pints will tap a few other Double Mountain delights\, and pump up the jams\, beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Nov.1. It would be cool if you joined us. \nLINK: The story behind Peaks and Pints Cool Camp IPA

SUMMARY:Stone Brewing and Tease Chocolates Halloween Party
DESCRIPTION:Stone Brewing and Tease Chocolates Halloween Party \nWilly Wonka inspired generations of kids to dream of owning a chocolate factory when they grew up — but Julie and Topher Farrell have achieved it in real life. Tease Chocolates isn’t a factory on the scale of Wonka’s\, and there’s no chocolate river in the Stadium District chocolate shop. But they do make their own chocolate from cacao beans\, which they turn into bars\, truffles and caramels\, all made by hand right there in the shop. \nAs part of Peaks and Pints’ second anniversary celebration\, we’re pairing Tease Chocolates treats with Stone Brewing Co. craft beer on Halloween night\, beginning at 6 p.m. We’ll pair five different Stone beers with a specific Tease caramel\, truffle or chocolate. Peaks and Pints sat down with Stone Brewing over a box of Tease treats\, which was kind of strenuous. Some beers we had to go back two to three times to see if they would work. Yeah\, we know. \nThe idea of beer and chocolate is not new\, as even Stone Brewing has brewed delicious stouts with chocolate. In fact\, chocolate and beer pairing dates back to the ancient Mayans. We’re not sure what inspired Mayans to pair chocolate with beer. They never played beer pong or debated the place of a lemon wedge in the hefeweizen\, but they were all over fermented-corn beverages. Their chocolate apparatus featured a spout to aerate the frothy hot liquid. Mayans must have discovered beer and chocolate make great mediums because they are both versatile and accommodating to other flavors\, while maintaining their own flavor profiles. Then again\, Mayans stuffed their dead mouths with corn. It’s a fact chocolate can enhance the beer just like beer can enhance the flavors of the chocolate. \nWe’ll update the exact pairing soon. We’re eating 25 more Tease treats to find the perfect pairing with our keg of 2014 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine. \nPro tip: Apparently\, avocado toast is now enough of a thing that it merits a Halloween costume that you can actually search for and buy on the Interwebz. \nSTONE BREWERY AND TEASE CHOCOLATES HALLOWEEN PARTY\, 6 p.m. Wednesday\, Oct. 31\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Cool Camp Week: Tacoma Girls Rock Benefit
DESCRIPTION:Cool Camp Week: Tacoma Girls Rock Benefit \nPeaks and Pints will celebrate its two-year anniversary with a series of prefunk celebrations kicking off Saturday\, Oct. 27 and running through Thursday\, Nov. 1. In honor of our Cool Camp IPA we brewed at Double Mountain Brewery in Hood River\, Oregon\, we’ve dubbed our string of anniversary parties\, “Cool Camp Week\,” with Double Mountain in the house for the beer release on our true anniversary date\, Nov. 1. \nPeaks and Pints’ Cool Camp isn’t the first cool camp in Tacoma. That honor goes to Tacoma Girls Rock Camp — an organization dedicated to empowering youth in the South Sound region through a music education camp. Peaks and Pints will host a fundraiser for Tacoma Girls Rock at 6 p.m. Tuesday\, Oct. 30\, as part of our second anniversary week. \nTacoma Girls Rock was founded in January 2016\, reaching recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit status eight months later. It helps “campers” form a band\, then assists in writing\, recording and performing an original song to the greater Tacoma community. Tacoma Girls Rock seeks to provide its campers with new experiences that encourage them to think about representation\, defy gender stereotypes\, practice collaboration in a creative environment and walk away with a tool for self-reflection and expression. \nThat rocks! \nMusic makes everything better. Garbage’s “Push It” turns the mundane task of vacuuming into a much more enjoyable task. Work at a telemarketer call center? Blondie’s “Call me” gives you hope customers will call you back. Piecing together Christmas gifts to Hole’s “Doll Parts” and you’ll add a bourbon barrel age stout and a smile to the task. OK\, the last one was a stretch\, but you get the point. Music makes everything better. \nTacoma Girls Rock knows it to be true. How about you? \nJoin us Tuesday\, Oct. 30 in support of Tacoma Girls Rock Camp. Peaks and Pints will donate part of the proceeds from all draft sales that night to keep Tacoma girls rocking. \nCOOL CAMP WEEK: TACOMA GIRLS ROCK BENEFIT\, 6-9 p.m. Tuesday\, Oct. 3\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, donations accepted

SUMMARY:Dark Knight Craft Beer Cave
DESCRIPTION:Dark Knight Craft Beer Cave \nThe place is the City of Destiny. The time\, 2018 — once removed. \nThe pulsing heart of Tacoma\, a neon of pre-Halloween happiness on a Monday night: a nurse costume sipping a pilsner\, a Cat In The Hat look-alike clinking a pint of pale ale with what seems to be Big Bird clutching a tulip full of dry-hopped apricot sour beer\, and a Winnie The Pooh chugging a kolsch … as if heaven blanketed the city like a 4.6 percent winter wonderland. A dangling fat moon shines overhead\, ready to burst into a shower of Babybel cheese. \nOn top of Peaks and Pints in the heart of Tacoma’s Proctor District\, wooden gargoyles gaze down from their windswept perches\, keeping monstrous watch over the distant streets below\, sightless guardians of the Tacoma night. \nOne of them is moving … with a snifter full of bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. \nAs if lifeless\, the figure falls from Peaks and Pints’ towering roof taking flight just before smashing a Lime scooter. Caped in black\, it glides silently over the streets. \nBiff! Bam! Pow! The shadowy figure jettisons low ABV beers out of cheery revelers’ fingers. Chain restaurant after chain restaurant\, this Dark Knight\, if you will\, kicks yellow beer to the curb replacing it with a 5-ounce liquid invite to Peaks and Pints’ Dark Knight Craft Beer Cave night Monday\, Oct. 29. The Bumble Bee costume receives Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout\, the Cowgirl wrangles an Avery Raspberry Truffale\, the Mermaid gives up a Corona for a The Bruery So Happens It’s Tuesday\, the Sailor is handed a Port Brewing 2015 Older Viscosity Imperial Stout\, Shakespeare now sips a Modern Times Devil’s Teeth Bourbon Barrel-Aged English Old Ale\, Supergirl can now toast with a Fortside 2017 Barrel-Fied — one after another receives treats such as Ecliptic Barrel-Aged Oort Imperial Stout\, Fremont Bourbon Barrel-Aged Dark Star\, Hale’s Akademic Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout\, Prairie Artisan Ales imperial stouts\, Counterbalance Kushetka Imperial Stout and others. \nOne by one these dark beer converts creep into Peaks and Pints Monday\, Oct. 29 donning more haunting costumes\, surrounded by Goth and Darkwave tunes while sipping another round of what the “Dark Knight” presented them earlier in the night. \nA young woman with bat wings wanders the crowd asking for donations to EcoHealth Alliance to support bat conservation. \n“Sometimes the truth isn’t good enough\, sometimes people need more\,” announces the shadowy figure perched on top of Peaks and Pints’ cooler. “Cheers everyone!” \nDARK KNIGHT CRAFT BEER CAVE WITH BATS BENEFIT\, 6 p.m. Monday\, Oct. 29\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 No. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover \nLINK: Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Cool Camp Week\, Oct. 27-Nov. 1 \nLINK: Cool Camp Week: Beer Industry Geeks Flight Battle\, Oct. 27 \nLINK: Carnivale de Belgian Beerloo\, Oct. 28 \n

SUMMARY:Cool Camp Week: Carnivale de Belgian Beerloo
DESCRIPTION:Cool Camp Week: Carnivale de Belgian Beerloo \nRemember that movie shot in Belgium where Eva Green is a flinty authoritarian Mary Poppins-like human who can transform into a falcon and create loops in time\, within which she can eternally relive the same day in 1943 — hiding inside it in order to protect children born with physical and supernatural abilities for which society has rejected them? Well\, while they were there\, other less magical Belgians were producing more than 1\,100 varieties of beer\, a few you can taste at the second annual Carnivale de Belgian Beerloo Sunday\, Oct. 28\, an all-day nod to Belgian beers in conjunction with Peaks and Pints second anniversary week-long celebration\, Cool Camp Week. \nBelgian beer is known for having quite the alcohol content. It can be pricey\, but has quite the bang for the buck compared to our domestics. Each brand has their own special glass designed to accentuate the best attributes of the many types of beer. Many of the beers forumulations go back hundreds of years\, perfected by the Trappist Monks. In Belgium\, beer is so important to the culture and lifestyle you can still get Stella Artois delivered to your home\, just like the milkman! \nAnyhoo\, Peaks and Pints will open Oct. 28 with a Belgian beer tap takeover by Merchant du Vin Artisanal Imports and Total Beverage Solution. Expect Dupont Cuvee Dry Hopping\, Lindemans fruit beer\, Dupont Avec Les Bon Vouex\, Saison Dupont and other Belgian beers on draft and in flights\, plus other festivities. \nCOOL CAMP WEEK: CARNIVALE DE BELGIAN BEERLOO\, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.\, Sunday\, Oct. 28\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover \nLINK: Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Cool Camp Week\, Oct. 27-Nov. 1 \nLINK: Cool Camp Week: Beer Industry Geeks Flight Battle\, Oct. 27 \nLINK: Dark Knight Craft Beer Cave\, Oct. 29 \n  \n

SUMMARY:Beer Industry Geeks Flight Battle
DESCRIPTION:It will be a cold Saturday\, the kind of day that eats at a man\, makes him start thinking warm thoughts\, like heading to Peaks and Pints to participate in the Beer Industry Geeks Flight Battle\, maybe watching two men — one dressed in a TSA uniform and the other in a Hawaiian shirt — bludgeron the holy hell out of each other over beer. \nAs part of Peaks and Pints’ Cool Camp Week\, a week-long celebration of our second anniversary\, Rich Jamieson of Alpha Distributing and Mike Bosold of NW Beverages will pit five craft beers — a sour\, a lager\, an IPA\, a scotch ale and an imperial stout — from their respective catalog of breweries against each other in the Beer Industry Geeks Flight Battle — a lucha libre-like beer flight smackdown. \nThree years in the beer industry\, young buck Jamieson was on the opening team at Imbibe Bottle House and Taproom in Maple Valley before becoming the beer buyer at CRFT Beers in Auburn. He now sells AleSmith\, Boneyard\, Epic\, Knee Deep\, TRVE\, Wild Ride and other craft beer for Alpha Distributing. \nBosold\, on the other hand\, has seen some years in the beer business. As bartender in 2011\, he brought in craft beer at the Goldfish Tavern in Tacoma. Following a stint at the now defunct 99 Bottles\, he became the beer buyer for BevMo! in Washington state. Next\, after running the beer department and wicker section at Cost Plus World Market\, he became a sales executive at Click Wholesale Distributing\, which merged with The Odom Corporation to form NW Beverages. Bosold could pull from Bale Breaker\, Double Mountain\, Everybody’s\, Founders\, Modern Times\, pFriem\, Stone and hundred others. \nThe two Washington state beer distributor reps will fill five beer style slots from their brewery catalogs with Peaks and Pints customers picking the best beer flight. That’s right\, you judge; simply pick one of the two\, $12 flights and enjoy the deliciousness. When the clock strikes 11 p.m. the rep who sold the most flights wins. \nSaturday\, Oct. 27\, as you work through one of the two available flights\, you’ll raise one of your taster glasses saluting the two gentlemen. They each created the finest beer flight in all the land. You’ll close your eyes and sip the highly regarded imperial stout\, enjoying its rich bourbon flavor … until one of the two beer geeks knocks it out of your hands as he performs a kick-ass backflip off the bar top followed by a scruff-of-the-neck slam-down of his beer flight opponent. The audience will call for more blood. And beer. \nAlpha Distributing Beer Flight\nTaster One: Epic Brewing Oak and Orchard Cabernet Sauvignon Sour \nTaster Two: Barrel Mountain Brewing Luv Ya Lager \nTaster Three: Boneyard Beer Hop Venom \nTaster Four: Boundary Bay Scotch Ale \nTaster Five: AleSmith Brewing Celestial Dawn Speedway Stout \nor \nNW Beverages Beer Flight\nTaster One: Cascade Brewing Flamblanc \nTaster Two: pFriem Family Brewers Japanese Lager \nTaster Three: Melvin 2×4 DIPA \nTaster Four: Black Raven Brewing Second Sight Strong Scotch Ale \nTaster Five: Modern Times Bourbon Barrel Aged Monster’s Park with Cinnamon\, Cocoa Nibs\, Coconut and Piloncillo \nBEER INUSTRY GEEKS FLIGHT BATTLE\, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.\, Saturday\, Oct. 27\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, $12 each flight \nLINK: Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Cool Camp Week\, Oct. 27-Nov. 1 \nLINK: Carnivale de Belgian Beerloo\, Oct. 28 \nLINK: Dark Knight Craft Beer Cave\, Oct. 29
