SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints Two Beers Brewing Lodge Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Two Beers Brewing Co. and Seattle Cider Company will be the guest hosts for the Peaks and Pints Lodge Meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Nov. 10. Drinking for Conservation will be in the house raising money for Cascades Pika Watch\, an organization that studies Columbia Gorge pikas’ resilience in their ecosystems in the face of a warming planet. \nTWO BEERS BREWING CO.\nIn 2005\, Joel VandenBrink found himself in a disagreement with a friend\, so they headed to a local pub to talk it through. After the second pint disappeared\, the two friends had an honest conversation. Engineering grad and outdoorsman VandenBrink had just moved to Seattle from Holland. After a homebrew starter kit and an inspirational tour of New Belgium Brewing\, VandenBrink founded Two Beers Brewing Co. in a 170 square foot ActivSpace facility along Highway 99 in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood in August 2007. VandenBrink engineered his beer recipes on two burners and two 27-gallon fermenters. In June 2008\, VandenBrink delivered his first keg\, 20:20 Blonde. \nThe rest\, as they say\, is history. \nPEAKS AND PINTS LODGE MEETING\nEric Willard\, director of Operation at Seattle Cider Company and Two Beers Brewing Company\, joined the Two Beers brewers in brewing a special beer for the Two Beers Peaks and Pints Pals night Nov. 10. “We added a crazy amount of spruce tips to our EVO IPA recipe\,” says Willard. “We were a bit worried that it might have been too much\, but I think I turned out well.” Indeed\, as it seems that they bought the local Christmas tree lot right out\, chopped them all up\, and let them steep throughout the whole bloody brew cycle. It smells of spruce\, that much is very true\, all green and acrid and compelling\, with a bit of appropriate dirty earthiness\, and maybe a suggestion of some grainy and mildly caramelized malt. The EVO IPA alone hits the nose with pinecones and tropical fruit\, as it’s hopped with Yakima Valley Simcoe\, Amarillo and Centennial\, then aggressively dry-hopped with Simcoe and Columbus. The taste is replete with resinous spruce tree bitterness\, tropical fruit and a slight toffee finish. It finishes dry\, earthy\, spruce needle-y\, and faintly grainy. \nThe other Two Beers craft brews pouring from the Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log will be the Overhang Imperial Porter AND Jive Espresso Stout as well as a Seattle Cider red wine barrel aged Berry. \nDRINKING FOR CONSERVATION\nTacoma’s Drinking for Conservation is an organized committee of dedicated zoo staff and volunteers from the Point Defiance American Association of Zoo Keepers Chapter.  Dedicated to professional animal care\, the vision of the AAZK is to provide resources for zookeepers and animal care professionals. Every month\, Drinking for Conservation partners with a Tacoma drinking establishment to raise money for a specific endangered species or environmental situation. For November\, they will be hanging with Two Beers Brewing Co. at Peaks and Pints Thursday\, Nov. 10\, raising money for Cascade Pika Watch’s effort to study the cute\, little pika. Pika are considered to be a sensitive indicator of climate change due to their inability to survive long periods of warm summer weather. Columbia River Gorge pika are of particular interest because they live at a lower elevation than any other pika population in the U.S. Through Cascades Pika Watch\, people can help scientists better understand changes in pika populations. \nPEAKS AND PINTS TWO BEERS BREWING LODGE MEETING\, 6 p.m.\, Thursday\, Nov. 10\, peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover\, $1 raffle

SUMMARY:Fox Island Brewing CenColSim IPA hangout
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints will host a release party for Fox Island Brewing Co.’s CenColSim IPA 4-6 p.m. Saturday\, Dec. 3 at Peaks and Pints. Dignam will be in the house\, chatting up the CenColSim IPA and well as his love for travel\, movies and beer. \nCenColSim? \n“CenColSim” is an ancient Sumerian word that roughly translates to ‘Late Bitter Flower\,’” Dignam explains. “Ok\, that was a load of crap\, but it sounded good\, huh? The name Cen-Col-Sim actually comes from the three hop varieties used in the boil and as dry hops to make this IPA.” \nDignam means\, of course\, Centennial\, Columbus and Simcoe. \nFor a more details on the beer\, click here. \nFOX ISLAND BREWING CO. SUMMARY:Sierra Nevada Beer Camp #175 Chicocabra Imperial Stout release party
DESCRIPTION:Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.’s Beer Camp is the ultimate brewing experience. The Chico\, California\, brewery invites beer industry folks and fans into its brewery for three days where Beer Campers inspect the bottling line at an arm’s reach; explore a freezer bigger than a house where hops are stacked to the ceiling; pedal across Sierra Nevada property on a 12-seater beer bike outfitted with fresh kegs of Celebration Ale; watch the research lab test batches; shovel hops; taste experimental batches; and\, ultimately\, brew their own beer on Sierra Nevada’s pilot brewing system with its head brewer\, Abe Kabakoff. Peaks and Pints co-owner Ron Swarner was part of the 10-member Beer Camp #175 this past July\, where he did all that and much more. His Sierra Nevada Beer Camp #175 Chicocabra Imperial Stout with aroma of Mexican hot chocolate and taste of intense cocoa will be tapped Saturday\, Jan. 28 at Peaks and Pints\, along with many other Sierra Nevada craft beers\, including Beer Camp Golden IPA\, Pale Ale\, Bigfoot Barleywine Style Ale and the recently released Sidecar Orange Pale Ale. \nLINK: The backstory on the making of Sierra Nevada Beer Camp #175 Chicocabra Imperial Stout

SUMMARY:Portland Beer Week with Rob Widmer
DESCRIPTION:Portland Beer Week with Rob Widmer \nThe seventh annual celebration of all things beery and beautiful in the Pacific Northwest\, Portland Beer Week is so big that a week is now 11 days — June 7-17 — and so sprawling that no one location could hope to contain it. Peaks and Pints plucked one of its favorite Portland breweries to showcase in our little lodge in Tacoma’s Proctor District: Widmer Brothers Brewing. \nThe now-legendary Widmer brothers\, founders of one of the first post-Prohibition breweries in Portland\, have maintained a legacy of innovation and success nearly unheard of among craft brewers. Their popular Hefeweizen is now a household name in the United States\, often credited with popularizing the style among American beer drinkers. \nPeaks and Pints decided not to tap Widmer’s beautiful unfiltered wheat at our Widmer Brothers Brewing Lodge Meeting Thursday\, June 14 (it’s in our cooler!)\, but rather showcase their recent craft — Thing #6 IPA\, LA Haze\, Hash Burst Pale Ale (Amarillo) and Mr. Sparkle Asian Lager — proving the Bros. can still brew amazing\, relevant beer after 34 years. \nOh\, by the way\, co-founder Rob Widmer will be in the house so bring your autograph book. \nEstablished in 1984 as Widmer Brewing Company\, Rob and Kurt Widmer’s joint venture boasted a 10-barrel brewery handcrafted from scraps. The brothers sifted through a library copy of Oregon Names in search of a name for their brewery. They decided to incorporate their last name only after a friend suggested they look around the world and see that most of the breweries with 100 years of heritage or more had family names on them. \nRob and Kurt opened for business near fellow fledgling brewery BridgePort\, after nine months of hard labor and ingenuity — with a little help from dad\, Ray. Their tanks came from a junkyard: remnants from a nuclear power plant that failed to get licensed. Mash tuns were hand-stirred\, 100-pound bags of grain heaved about by the brothers themselves. Distribution was a labor-intensive affair. Without a forklift\, the brothers loaded kegs onto a table\, from which they would toss the containers into the truck. Often\, Rob and Kurt made deliveries themselves\, loading kegs into their dad’s vintage Datsun truck — a vehicle they still bring out for special occasions. The Widmer brothers’ story in many ways parallels Ken Grossman’s hardships to launch Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. two years earlier. \nIf you walked into Widmer Brothers Brewing’s pub at 929 N. Russell St. in Portland today\, you’d see a menu board with 25 of their beer on tap\, including the four beers we’ll have on tap Thursday night. … \nWidmer Mr. Sparkle\n5% ABV\, 20 IBU \nWidmer teams up with neighbor Occidental Brewing on an Asian dry lager with calrose and flaked rice. The rice lager is brewed with 6-Row malt and a super low fermentation for a crisp\, clean finish. \nWidmer Hash Burst Pale Ale (Amarillo)\n65 ABV\, 40 IBU \nHop Hash bursts with Amarillo hops for a citrusy\, bright and balanced tropical pale ale. It’s a modern pale\, playing off peach and apricot while balancing a lighter\, less malty body. \nWidmer Thing #6\n5.5% ABV\, 60 IBU \nThing 6 is Widmer’s latest in the Portland brewery’s exploration of hazy IPA styles\, this time with an interplay between a different ale yeast and three hops with noticeably fruity flavors. The London Ale 1 yeast adds fruity esters as well as a noticeable minerality in the finish\, while the blend of three hops cuts though the yeast and protein haze to deliver a harmonious blend of fruit flavors. \nWidmer LA Haze\n6% ABV\, 60 IBU \nGalaxy hops are showcased on a fruity and juicy IPA — a bright citrus tang cuts through the hazy body of this beer and builds on the natural notes of orange and tart citrus. \nRub shoulders with craft pioneer Rob Widmer and drink his recent\, delicious beers at Peaks and Pints Thursday\, June 14. You’ll discover he brews other cloudy beers with the sunny taste. \nPORTLAND BEER WEEK WITH ROB WIDMER\, 6 p.m. Thursday\, June 14\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Tieton Organic Hard Cider Release Party
DESCRIPTION:Tieton Organic Hard Cider Release Party \nTieton Cider Works will release their Organic Hard Cider line in October\, with a release party at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Oct. 4 at Peaks and Pints bottle shop\, taproom and restaurant in Tacoma’s Proctor District. \nApples have been around for 50 million to 65 million years\, emerging right around the time dinosaurs went extinct and primates made their first appearance. For millions of years\, the trees reproduced without any human interference. When primates — and later\, early humans — encountered a new apple tree and bit into its fruit\, they never knew what they were going to get. What early humans did know was there wasn’t any pesticides\, manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilizers used to grow the apples. What they didn’t know was landscapes prosper as healthy soils are a major store of carbon\, containing three times as much as the atmosphere and five times as much as forests. \nEarly human didn’t know they were eating organically. \nTieton Cider Works has been growing apples in the Yakima Valley for three generations. Craig Campbell’s grandfather planted apple trees in the 1920s\, but it was until 2008 when he and his wife\, Sharon\, began growing cider apples on their Harmony Orchards in Tieton\, Washington. They launched Tieton Cider Works in 2009\, with the intent to maintain their practices of being good stewards of the land. In 2014\, their Tieton farmhouse couldn’t handle the growth so the Campbells opened a larger facility in Yakima\, yet maintained their mission of producing cider without shortcuts.s \nTieton Cider Works’ decision to make organic cider was driven by the Campbells’ love for nature — first and foremost they believed in looking after the countryside and working in harmony with nature; environmental consideration was placed firmly at the heart of the business\, not just in being organic but also creating a business in tune with the countryside\, its seasons\, ways and principles. \nJoin Tieton Cider Works for the release of their Organic Hard Cider Oct. 4 at Peaks and Pints. Discover that organic cider can taste dry and crisp\, slightly tart but well-balanced withy a fruity nose. \nTIETON ORGANIC HARD CIDER RELEASE PARTY\, 6 p.m.\, Thursday\, Oct. 4\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Fort George Brewery and Hoyt Smith
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Fort George Brewery and Hoyt Smith \nThe wide and impressive swath of brewery and band collaborations impresses Peaks and Pints. It’s not just Hanson’s MMMhops Pale Ale vying for our attention. An overwhelming number of brewers seem to favor heavy metal and IPAs (the list is endless)\, but as the idea continues to catch on\, mainstream pop and other musical genres have also started to find representation\, and the variety of styles has expanded. Phish\, Jimmy Eat World\, Guided by Voices\, Mumford and Sons\, Hoyt Smith\, Frank Turner and Hootie and the Blowfish have all jumped on the brewery bandwagon. \nHoyt Smith? \nIndeed. When homebrewer and Fort George Brewery sales executive for Washington state isn’t doling 3-Way IPA consolation hugs or explaining why people dressed in sci-fi costumes are buying up all the delicious Crysknife IPA\, Hoyt Smith is playing lead guitar for Seattle rock band Hounds of the Wild Hunt or spinning records in lounges. Smith brewed his wedding beer at the Astoria brewery and Peaks and Pints will tap it for our next SudsPop VIP Night Wednesday\, Oct. 17 — as well as be the musical guest. It’s true. Twenty SudsPop ticket holders will enjoy Girl Of My Dreams pale ale (think Fort George’s City of Dreams with apricots) while listening to Smith jump back and forth between lecturing on brewing beer and performing songs he’s played through the years. \n“I kind of geek out on the brewing process as I use to be a homebrew instructor\,” explains Smith. “I’ll also discuss Fort George’s brewing processes and beers — especially wild yeasts and bugs involved in our four new saisons we’ll be releasing. SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Party
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Party \nIn 2011\, Tacoma musician and homebrewer turned professional brewer Matt Coughlin and four friends pointed their compass toward the Olympic National Park. They made their way through rugged terrain\, past thick rainforest and across melting snow along the Bailey Range Traverse. Trekking between Mt. Ferry and Pulitzer Peak the hikers came across the most enchanting spot to pitch a tent. They called it “Cool Camp.” Coughlin recounted his magical backpacking adventure as he and his fellow Double Mountain Brewery brewers guided Peaks and Pints through the brewing process of our new house IPA. As he recounted glorious mountain peaks and green valleys while we stirred hops inside the Hood River brewery we knew our IPA had a name: Cool Camp IPA. \nPeaks and Pints celebrates its two-year anniversary at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Nov. 1\, with the release of Cool Camp IPA. While it would be a near impossible task to duplicate the success and deliciousness of our first anniversary house IPA\, Two Beers Brewing’s Proctor Peaks IPA\, we knew Double Mountain Brewery had the chops\, and the hops\, to pull it off. Besides\, both Coughlin and owner Matt Swihart adore music and the Great Outdoors\, which is also Peaks and Pints’ jam. \n“As a nod to our mutual love of the outdoors and of beer\, we collaborated with an IPA that would go well with a gathering of friends\, sitting around a fire and chatting about adventures\,” says Coughlin. “Simcoe and Centennial — one of my favorite hop combinations — take the lead\, with substantial additions throughout the boil — 2\, 5\, and 3 pounds to be exact\, Tacoma’s area code — with more in the hop back and dry hop. Kolsch yeast provides a lightly fruited character\, supporting the hops and letting them shine. There’s enough weight in the malt bill to let some biscuit and cereal through but it’s light enough to carry along the adventure. Fermentation went well\, drying out to 1.5 degree Plato\, making for a clean\, easy-drinking IPA with a wonderfully dank evergreen and citrus aroma. Mellow on the bitterness\, high on aroma\, and easy to have more than one.” \nThursday\, Nov. 1\, when we tap the Double Mountain Cool Camp IPA at our second anniversary party\, you will witness the 6.6-percent\, 55 IBU autumn sunset orange beauty. You’ll breathe in its juicy evergreen\, ripe tangerine\, ruby red grapefruit and resin aroma. Your eyes will grow big as you sip Cool Camp’s ripe red citrus\, temperate forest that eases in to some melon and biscuit. By the second sip\, you’ll nod with approval of its clean pine\, bright fruit\, melon and mellow bitterness. \nPeaks and Pints will tap a few other Double Mountain delights\, and pump up the jams\, beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Nov.1. It would be cool if you joined us. \nLINK: The story behind Peaks and Pints Cool Camp IPA

SUMMARY:Bale Breaker New Can Design Release Party
DESCRIPTION:Bale Breaker New Can Design Release Party\nBale Breaker Brewing Co. has released new can designs for its core four beers: Topcutter IPA\, Bottomcutter IIPA\, Field 41 Pale Ale and Leota Mae IPA. The Yakima Valley brewery has loaded an RV with the new cans and will tour the Pacific Northwest\, stopping at Bottles in Spokane Dec. 18\, Belmont Station in Portland Dec. 19\, Peaks and Pints at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 20 and The Beer Junction at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 20. \nBale Breaker’s holiday beer tour is a natural progression in the evolution of the beer can. \n4\,300 BC – Oldest-known written recipe — a formula for beer — inscribed in clay cuneiform tablet. The Babylonians try to package their Suck It Sumerian Stout in a log. \n500-1000 AD – The first half of the Middle Ages\, brewing begins in European monasteries and convents; hops added to process. Bring Out Your Dead IPA was packaged in a clay pot. \n1490 – Columbus finds Native Americans making beer from corn and tree sap in the Bahamas. First Caribbean bar fight breaks out when Columbus tried to steal their beer by dumping it in coconuts. \n1620 – Mayflower docks at Plymouth Rock; ship’s log notes landing hastened by fears over dwindling supplies\, “especially our beere.” The Puritans pointed fingers at the Pilgrims who hide the beere in iron pots. \n1810 – Englishman Peter Durand introduces a method for sealing food in “unbreakable” tin cans. \n1842 – Golden lager launched in Plzen\, Bohemia. “Girls Night Out” Pilsner Urquell drunken karaoke is invented. \n1844 – Milwaukee brewery later to become Pabst Brewing Company opens. Many years in the future\, Portland hiccups. \n1912 — The first commercial canning establishment in the U.S. was started by Thomas Kensett. \n1935 — Krueger Brewing Company of Richmond\, Virginia walked into a grocery store carrying a steel can that weighed in at almost 4 ounces and opened with a church key. \n2003 — Dale Katechis\, founder of Oskar Blues Brewery\, cans Dale’s Pale Ale\, Oskar Blue’s flagship American pale. The Canned Beer Apocalypse begins. \n2009 — 7 Seas Brewing is the first craft brewery in Washington state to can its beer. \n2013 — Bale Breaker Brewing releases Field 41 Pale Ale and Topcutter IPA in cans. \nDecember\, 2018 — Bale Breaker releases new can designs for its core four beers: Topcutter IPA\, Bottomcutter IIPA\, Field 41 Pale Ale and Leota Mae IPA. Each new can features an icon distinctive to each type of beer to help it stand out in the lineup of other craft brews down the beer aisle. They named the Topcutter IPA and Bottomcutter IIPA after the unique tractors used during harvest to remove hop vines from both the ground and the top of the trellis. The Field 41 Pale Ale after the hopfield their family plowed down to build the taproom\, and the Leota Mae IPA after the woman who started it all for them back in 1932 — the year before Prohibition ended. Each can features the tagline\, Fresh of the Farm that embraces the brewery’s rich history in hop farming in the Yakima Valley. One thing that stays the same however is each of the beer’s recipes. \nDec. 20\, 2018 — Peaks and Pints will host a Bale Breaker can label artwork release party from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Bale Breaker will park their RV outside Peaks and Pints with all the matching apparel and other new brewery merchandise. In addition to the mountain of cans\, we’ll tap a few fun tasty Bale Breaker beers on our Western red cedar tap log. \nBALE BREAKER NEW CAN DESIGN RELEASE PARTY\, 3:30-5:30 p.m.\, Thursday\, Dec. 20\, peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:The Oligarchs are coming! The Oligarchs are coming!
DESCRIPTION:The Oligarchs are coming! The Oligarchs are coming!\nThe word oligarch first came into wide use in and about Russia in the 1990s; back then\, it referred to men who had built their fortunes on the ruins of the Soviet economy and then used their wealth to obtain political power. In Putin’s mafia state\, oligarchs have surrendered their autonomy — and any political ambitions — in exchange for wealth. In Breakside Brewery’s craft beer state\, The Oligarch has surrendered its flavor to bourbon barrels for two years before being exiled to Peaks and Pints bottle shop\, taproom and restaurant in Tacoma’s Proctor District. \nPeaks and Pints will host the Tacoma release party for Breakside’s The Oligarch bourbon barrel-aged British imperial stout and its six variants 5-8 p.m. Thursday\, Feb. 28 — the last day of Peaks and Pints February Stout Month. \nThe Oligarch. The “original” beer is a single batch of British imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels for more than two years in the making. Next\, the Breakside brewers replaced their Russian fur brewer bibs for scientist lab coats adding a variety of ingredients to the base British imperial stout. \n“This is also the first time we’ve blended different-aged batches of the same wood-aged stout into a finished blend\, which gives The Oligarch incredible nuance\,” says Breakside Brewmaster Ben Edmunds in a media release. “When we took on this project\, we approached each blend seriously\, trying to create a whimsical\, balanced\, and delicious set of flavors. I hope that people enjoy drinking these beers as much as we enjoyed creating and blending them.” \nThe Oligarch project encompasses 84 casks\, resulting in 122 barrels of finished beer. Beers that will pour from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log Thursday include: \nThe Oligarch: An imperial stout blended from four different batches of stouts aged in bourbon barrels\, this craft beer is rich\, sticky\, sweet and aggressive. \nMaple Oligarch: The maple bourbon barrels from Bissell Maple Farm in Jefferson\, Ohio provide a ton of complexity\, offering an especially nerdy delight to be found in this intense and rich beer. \nCandy Cap: This variant is made with one of the Pacific Northwest’s most beguiling foodstuffs: candy cap mushrooms. Their intense brown sugar smell helps create a sweet-then-savory sensation that dovetails perfectly into some of the strong oxidative notes of the casks. \nBocconotto: Aged on cinnamon bark\, toasted almonds\, chocolate and a touch of lemon zest\, this beer is an ode to one of Breakside’s favorite Italian pastries\, a specialty of southern Italy. \nChampurrado: Comprised of eight of the richest casks from the series and inspired by the flavors of Mexican champurrado\, Breakside aged this stout on a mix of cacao nibs\, vanilla bean\, and toasted corn. \nPiedmontese: The most elegant variant in this series\, this beer was fashioned on the off-sweet cakes of northern Italy. Breakside conditioned this blend of maple barrel-aged stouts on Oregon-grown hazelnuts and vanilla bean and added a touch of sea salt for depth. \nCoco Breakfast: Breakside grabbed inspiration from Edmunds’ favorite childhood breakfast cereal and loaded up the cocoa and vanilla for a beer that works for dessert — or breakfast. \nTHE OLIGARCHS ARE COMING! THE OLIGARCHS ARE COMING!\, 5-8 p.m. Thursday\, Feb. 28\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Fort George 3-Way IPA 2019 South Sound Release Party
DESCRIPTION:Fort George 3-Way IPA 2019 South Sound Release Party\nWhile summer days are great for lounging\, it’s the hot summer nights that will truly make memories. And nothing heats things up faster than a Fort George Brewery’s 3-Way release party. Peaks and Pints has been selected to host the Astoria brewery’s annual IPA collaboration release party for the South Sound Thursday\, June 20. How do we present such a coveted IPA to the region? Gotta have more washboard. \nTacoma’s punkgrass band The Rusty Cleavers will rattle the 3-Way pints and cans live during the release party at Peaks and Pints. \nFort George Brewery has brewed 3-Way IPA since 2013\, featuring two different craft brewery collaborators every year. This year\, Cloudburst Brewing and Ruse Brewing shared ideas and techniques with Fort George owner Chris Nemlowill\, then began releasing beta small batches in November 2018. The initial idea was to brew something in between a New England style hazy and a West Coast IPA — unfiltered with pilsner malt\, red wheat\, golden promise\, plus ample discussions about pH levels in the whirlpool and the amounts of each hop addition. Three hops were initially chosen — Cashmere\, Idaho 7\, and Citra. However\, they also hatched a plan to try out different dominant dry hops in each batch\, while also making minor adjustments to the rest of the recipe. \nYou’ll notice 3-Way IPA combines all of the fruit-forwardness of a hazy\, but with that classic touch of bitterness from a West Coast IPA as The Rusty Cleavers perform “Laundromat Boogie.” You’ll toast the band’s “Hit on Heaven” song as you enjoy the bright\, citrus fruit bomb that doesn’t finish too heavy or sweet. You’ll scream\, “THIS IPA DOESN’T HOLD BACK ON THE HOPS!” as the band launches into “Whiskey You’re the Devil.” \nBut the fun doesn’t stop there. You’ll return to Peaks and Pints down the road (The Rusty Cleavers cranking through your Airbuds) as Fort George will move past the first batches heavily dry hopped with Citra (notes of orange juice\, grapefruit zest\, and bitter lemon peel) and beginning release new batches with supporting hops taking a starring dry-hop role. And you’ll be able to see which hop is dominant by checking the bottom of your can. \nThat’s all fine and dandy\, but we’re focused on providing you a night you’ll remember with Fort George 3-Way on draft and in cans\, and a few surprises on draft\, beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday\, June 20. \nCheers! \nFORT GEORGE 3-WAY IPA 2019 SOUTH SOUND RELEASE PARTY\, 6 p.m.\, band at 7:30 p.m.\, Thursday\, June 20\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Ecliptic Brewing 5 Beers for 5 Years: Bell’s Brewery
DESCRIPTION:Ecliptic Brewing 5 Beers for 5 Years: Bell’s Brewery\nIn celebration of their fifth year traveling round the sun\, Ecliptic Brewing created the Cosmic Collaboration series\, “5 Beers for 5 Years\,” in which the Portland\, Oregon brewery brews celestial concoctions with five other esteemed breweries. Peaks and Pints hosted the first three collaborations — Brooklyn Brewery in April and Firestone Walker in May and Breakside Brewery in July. We’re opening the pod bay door again for Ecliptic’s fourth Cosmic Collaborator\, Bell’s Brewery of Comstock\, Michigan\, at 6 p.m. Friday\, Aug. 30. \nEcliptic Brewing owner and brewmaster\, John Harris\, worked with Bell’s founder Larry Bell to create the Juicy IPA (8.5%) brewed with 2- row\, Pale and Munich malts\, along with Oregon Strata hops and two hop varieties from New Zealand — Galaxy and Taiheke — but it’s the beer making process that really brings out the unique flavor. Harris\, Bell\, and Bell’s director of operations\, John Mallett\, added ice to the whirlpool to lower the temperature\, which helps reduce bitterness and bring out the hops’ flavors. This results in a big\, bright and juicy IPA. \nECLIPTIC BREWING 5 BEERS FOR 5 YEARS: BELL’S BREWERY\, 6 p.m. Friday\, Aug. 30\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, no cover \nLINK: Ecliptic Brewing 5 Bears for 5 Years: Brooklyn Brewery \nLINK: Ecliptic Brewing 5 Bears for 5 Years: Firestone Walker Brewing \nLINK: Ecliptic Brewing 5 Bears for 5 Years: Breakside Brewery

The hops are couched in a pillowy malt base that makes the finish super soft. 7.8% 92 IBU \nFrench Quarter Rye-BA Barleywine: Inspired by the flavors of New Orleans famous Vieux Carré cocktail\, this is a luscious and rich rye-wine style ale. Three types of malted rye form the base of this extravagant beer\, which then aged for 15 months in American brandy barrels. Find aromas of nougat\, red grape\, chocolate malt ball\, marshmallow\, sweet caramel\, and orange in this complex ale. 9.9% 40 IBU \nHop Delivery Mechanism IIPA: Originally developed at Breakside’s Dekum pub in 2015\, Hop Delivery Mechanism is double dry hopped with Azacca and Citra hops\, while the “So Cal trinity” of Amarillo\, Simcoe\, and Columbus anchor down the kettle and whirlpool. The intense hop character comes across as juicy and dank with big notes of orange marmalade\, mango\, and Froot Loops. 8.5% 68 IBU \nKellerfest: When Breakside’s brewmaster studied in Germany\, he fell in love with the unfiltered\, ruddy\, amberish lagers from legendary Bavarian and Franconian breweries such as Hacker-Pschorr and Paulaner. Kellerfest is inspired by these lagers — it balances bready malt notes with German noble hop flavors\, and the result is a refreshing\, uncommon lager. 5% 25 IBU \nLavender Fizz Gin-BA Ale: Inspired by the family of Fizz cocktails\, Breakside aged a citrusy\, golden pale ale in second-use Old Tom Gin casks from small distillers around Oregon\, then conditioned it on two types of culinary lavender. 6.1% 21 IBU \nSmashbang IPA: Originally designed with Figueroa Mountain Brewing with soft ester-forward yeast\, clean European malts\, and an international array of hops to break some new ground in hop-forward beers: Waimea\, Wakatu\, and Galaxy. This IPA is a fruity hop bomb with notes of melon\, passionfruit\, starfruit\, and peach. 6% 44 IBU \nThe Body Electric Wood-Aged Sour: A mixed culture sour beer that was fermented and aged in oak barrels from two of Breakside’s favorite Oregon wineries. A blend of several different lots of beer from their wood cellar\, the finished product comes from 15 casks of beer brewed between August and November 2017. After nearly two years in barrel\, this beer showcases a complex array of vinous and fruity notes\, including pie cherry\, pineapple\, and fruit cocktail. Balanced acidity couples with a medium-high level of tannin from aged hops and oak for an elegant and multilayered finish. 6.4% 6 IBU

SUMMARY:3-Way\, 2 Ways\, Your Way Friday
DESCRIPTION:3-Way\, 2 Ways\, Your Way Friday\nJoin Peaks & Pints and Rainier Growlers Friday\, June 26 as the two craft beer bars tap Fort George Brewery’s 3-Way IPA\, as well as draft from Structures Brewing and Level Beer. The Tacoma Proctor District and South Hill Puyallup bottle shops will also have very limited 3-Way cans. \nAstoria’s Fort George Brewery has brewed 3-Way IPA since 2013\, featuring two different craft brewery collaborators every year. This year\, Bellingham’s Structures Brewing and Portland’s Level Beer Co. shared ideas and techniques with Chris Nemlowill of Fort George\, and after a few beta batches — the final 2020 Fort George 3-Way IPA hits the South Sound Friday. Peaks & Pints and Rainier Growlers grabbed early tastes and we’re happy to report its one of the best 3-Ways yet. Built on a foundation of Pilsner malt\, spelt\, and flaked oats\, plus dry hopped with ridiculous levels of Simcoe\, Azacca\, Citra\, and Chinook hops\, this year’s 3-Way has a hazy\, fruity nose\, followed by crisp\, smooth\, citrus/grassy/melon/dank flavor. \nPeaks and Rainier will have 32-ounce and 64-ounce growler fills of 3-way\, with Rainier Growlers allowing social distancing seating and Peaks still a to-go operation. The two craft beer bars will also tap Structures easy-drinking Splash Pale Ale. Rainier Growlers will tap several Level beers\, including NW Pilot IPA #2 and I’m Not A Hazy\, I Just Crush A Lot IPA. Peaks will tap Level’s NW Pilot IPA #3 and Level’s social justice collaboration Black Is Beautiful imperial stout. \nThere is no admission fee for these two events. At Rainier Growlers\, you can fill crowlers and growlers\, take home cans of all three breweries\, or drink inside at social distant tables. At Peaks\, you can fill growlers\, and take home cans of all three breweries. \nNo matter which way you do the 3-way\, it must be done with a mask. \nCheers! \nRainier Growlers\, noon to 10 p.m.\, 13105 Meridian E.\, South Hill Puyallup\, (253) 268-2284 \nPeaks & Pints\, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, (253) 328-5621 \n

SUMMARY:Tacoma Beer Week: E9 Blown Deadline IPA
DESCRIPTION:Tacoma Beer Week: E9 Blown Deadline IPA\nLocal\, regional\, national journalism is vital. We need good people to tell stories without fear or favor. The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation believes in this adage too. The organization has set up The South Sound Media Impact Fund to provide support for community-funded journalism at The News Tribune\, and Peaks & Pints and CaskCades are helping fund it too with their collaborative E9 Brewing Blown Deadline IPA to be released Sunday\, Aug. 8 during Tacoma Beer Week. Tacoma Beer Week: E9 Blown Deadline IPA is literally beer journalism. \nOn July 14\, 2021\, the staff of Peaks & Pints and CaskCades brewed the Blown Deadline citrus and pine IPA with lead brewer Matt Riggs at E9 Brewing in Tacoma’s Historic Brewery District. We might have buried the lede as the two craft beer joints also brewed the beer with News Tribune metro news columnist Matt Driscoll who inspired the journalistic beer with his essential local reporting documenting our region’s moments\, milestones\, and people. \nThe beer will be released noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 at CaskCades in downtown Puyallup and 3-5 p.m. at Peaks & Pints in Tacoma’s Proctor District. \n“CaskCades and Peaks & Pints will donate a portion of Blown Deadline IPA draft pours to the South Sound Media Impact Fund for the duration of the beer’s run at both taprooms\,” says Andy Gaine\, co-owner of CaskCades who along with his business partner\, AJ Wiltrout\, have been about community since opening the Puyallup taproom\, bottle shop and restaurant in the winter of 2018. “We’ll also take donations for the Fund during our release parties.” \nJoin the folks from Peaks & Pints\, CaskCades\, E9 Brewing\, and News Tribune to keep local journalism vibrant\, as well as follow Driscoll’s route from Puyallup high school football to city columnist in Tacoma. SUMMARY:The Beer Aquatic with 7 Seas and Wet Coast
DESCRIPTION:The Beer Aquatic with 7 Seas and Wet Coast\nThere’s nothing worse than awakening from a long winter’s nap\, rolling out of bed\, and discovering it’s two days before Christmas — and not a creature is stirring. But you’d better not cry\, and you don’t need to pout\, because Peaks & Pints has crafted a holiday festival Dec. 23\, “The Beer Aquatic with 7 Seas and Wet Coast.” The local breweries collaborated on the Rising Tide Baltic Porter\, which will be tapped at 5 p.m.\, Thursday\, Dec. 23\, at Peaks. So\, get your jollies\, and jingle a little\, too\, because we have that whole day planned for you. \nTHURSDAY\, DEC. 23: The Beer Aquatic\n>>> Wake up at 6 a.m. \n>>> Throw on your wet suit and swim in Commencement Bay. It’ll work out your entire body — arms\, legs\, shoulders\, lungs\, heart — as well as turn you blue. \n>>> Crank your home’s heat\, throw on your Team Zissou bathrobe\, and sip on a 7 Seas IPA while cooking tuna cakes for breakfast. \n>>> Dress in your light blue retro-inspired uniform\, red knit cap\, and Adidas striped sneakers\, crack open a Wet Coast Cream Ale and stream Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic. Feel thankful you’re not dealing with pirates\, kidnapping\, and bankruptcy. \n>>> Head to Wet Coast Brewing in Gig Harbor\, order a pint of On The Sly Cold IPA\, and read up on Baltic porters on your phone. You’ll discover Baltic porters evolved in the 18th century from the British porter. It was designed to be shipped across the North Sea to the lands of the Baltic Sea. Much of the beer was destined for Russia. It is similar to and closely associated with the Russian imperial stout. While porters and imperial stouts are ales\, the Baltic porter is made using lager yeast and fermented at colder temperatures. The strong lager is known for an assertive chocolate malt that imparts sweetness and often hints of toffee\, licorice\, and roastedness. \n>>> Stop by The Foss Waterway Seaport and check out the new exhibit\, “Shipwrecks – Duty of Memory.” It’s a photography exhibition by Italian photographer Stefano Benazzo. \n>>> Head up the hill to 7 Seas Brewing\, grab a can of Heidelberg\, and sing a sea shanty in the massive taproom. \n>>> At 5 p.m.\, head to Peaks & Pints for the 7 Seas/Wet Coast Rising Tide Baltic Porter collaboration release party. Several beers from both breweries will be on tap\, including their IPAs ran through special ingredients in the new Peaks & Pints Coleman Coolernator. Special gift will be wrapped under the tree for winning raffle tickets. Bring canned food for the Hoppy Holidays Food Drive. \n>>> End the night dressed as Poseidon\, God of the Sea\, jigging for squid from The Les Davis Pier. \nThe Beer Aquatic with 7 Seas and Wet Coast — Rising Tide Baltic Porter Release Party\, 5-8 p.m. Thursday\, Dec. 23\, Peaks & Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, 253.328.5621

SUMMARY:Into The Haze with Kulshan Brewing
DESCRIPTION:Are you one of those people who posts comments online about how craft brewing is nothing but a hophead’s game\, and the real craft is in\, let’s say\, harnessing the banana-esque esters of a Bavarian weissbier? Well\, screw that because we’re tapping beers so cloudy\, they’re damn near meteorological. Kulshan Brewing has released their first year-round hazy\, Into The Haze\, and Peaks & Pints invites you to jump in Thursday\, June 9. We’re tapping Kulshan’s new hazy\, as well as other hazies and beers from the Bellingham Brewery. \nINTO THE HAZE WITH KULSHAN BREWING\, 6-8 p.m.\, Thursday\, June 9\, Peaks & Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma

SUMMARY:Everybody’s Rebrand Launch at Peaks and Pints
DESCRIPTION:Everybody’s Rebrand Launch at Peaks and Pints\nPeaks and Pints will host Everybody’s Brewing’s Rebrand Launch Party Tuesday\, March 14\, showcasing the brewery’s rebranded logo and cans\, as well as introduce new beers on tap and in the cooler. \nRule No. 1 for a brewery’s success is to offer an appealing product. But making a tasty beer isn’t the only consideration in winning customers. With numerous artisan beers sold in Washington state and neighboring states\, the packaging for bottles and cans as well as brewery logos must also catch a shopper’s eye. \nTo stay competitive on the presentation side\, Everybody’s Brewing\, White Salmon\, Washington’s oldest brewery\, made a dramatic design change this month. Gone is the brewery’s logo of people standing together with beers in hand\, as well as the tractor\, the logger\, and Mountain Mama. In their place\, Everybody’s new look features fun line drawings\, pastel colors\, and plenty of white space. \nTheir new logo is a flag with an emblazoned “E”\, and new slogan boldly states\, “Beer For All.” Everybody’s co-owner Doug Ellenberger notes it’s importance\, “The flag was kind of an ironic play; traditionally\, they’re used to stake claim or ownership someone or something specific\, but our flag stakes claim for everybody. We truly believe that craft beer is a community staple\, one that everyone should be able to enjoy. Our new slogan drives that home. We make beer for everybody.” \nEverybody’s Rebrand Launch Party at Peaks and Pints will\, er\, launch at 5 p.m. Tuesday\, March 14. It will be an opportunity to check out the new design and chat with co-owner Doug Ellenberger\, as well as win some swag. \nEVERYBODY’S REBRAND LAUNCH\, 5-8 p.m. Tuesday\, March 14\, Peaks & Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover \nLINK: Everybody’s Brewing rebranding story
