SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Matchless Brewing and Forest Beutel
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Matchless Brewing and Forest Beutel \nMatchless Brewing co-owner and head brewer Patrick Jansen will wear a sleeveless shirt during his lecture at Peaks and Pints SudsPop night Tuesday\, Sept. 18. It’s not a SudsPop specific move; he lives the sleeveless life. He’s allowed to be sleeveless during our SudsPop night for two reasons. First\, he’s opened two breweries — his own Matchless and Three Magnets Brewing as founding head brewer — with numerous awards\, kudos and freakin’ delicious craft beers. Second reason: It’s in code with the National Brewer’s Handbook. His sleeveless shirts fall just below his belt loops; they don’t hug his torso tightly; the amount of skin he shows doesn’t exceed the square inches covered by his shirt. Furthermore\, his nipples don’t peek. (A shirt that shows nipples isn’t a shirt.) \nJansen will be the fourth craft beer brewer to lecture during a Peaks and Pints’ SudsPop session — a monthly event where a brewer lectures on a specific brewing topic between sets by a local musician. Paired with Jansen Sept. 18 will be Tacoma Americana blues musician Forest Beutel — also a man who lives the sleeveless life\, unencumbered by any handbook rules. \nIt would be very easy to spend the entire two hours listening to Beutel’s banjo and songcraft (we’ve done it many times))\, but for those who dig variety shows will enjoy Peaks and Pints’ SudsPop night — although there will probably not be any juggling. \nJansen will pour his fresh hop beer\, explain the science behind fresh hop beers and answer questions. Beutel will perform his latest work\, including a song he wrote specifically for Peaks and Pints. He’ll perform solo\, even though he’s an integral part of several local bands including Barleywine Revue and The Rusty Cleavers. \nPlease join us 7-9 p.m. Tuesday\, Sept. 18 in the Peaks and Pints East Wing for an incredible night of beer education and song. \nTickets are $14 plus tax\, which includes the special event beer\, nibbles from Peaks and Pints kitchen and\, of course\, all the beer education and music. There’s a limit of 20 people. Tickets are available at Peaks and Pints. \nPEAKS AND PINTS SUDSPOP: MATCHLESS BREWING AND FOREST BEUTEL\, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday\, Sept. 18\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, $14 presold

SUMMARY:Tacoma Beer Week 2018: The Hopnificent Seven
DESCRIPTION:During last year’s Tacoma Beer Week\, Director Mike Bosold staged The Hopnificent Seven\, a remake of the classic 1960 Western with an all-star cast of brewery sales executives\, a wide-ranging arsenal of hops and some funny lines at Peaks and Pints bottle shop\, taproom and restaurant in the Proctor District. Bosold is back with Tacoma Beer Week 2018: The Hopnificent Seven starring some new faces\, a wide-ranging arsenal of hops and some funny lines. \nPeaks and Pints was allowed five minutes with Bosold during his pedicure to ask questions. Sure\, we walked away a little scared but thrilled top hear sales executives from Breakside Brewery\, Fort George Brewery\, Pike Brewing\, Ecliptic Brewing and Reuben’s Brews will be returning with two new faces: Matchless Brewing and Three Magnets Brewing. \nWill Tacoma Beer Week 2018: The Hopnificent Seven return as a western? \n“This year’s theme is craft beer\,” chuckled Hoyt Smith\, sales executive with Fort George Brewery. “Nothing fancy\, just great beer and community.” \n“Yeehaw!” We mean\, “cool.” \nTACOMA BEER WEEK 2018: THE HOPNIFICENT SEVEN\, 6 p.m. Thursday\, Aug. 9\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow Tacoma
DESCRIPTION:Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow Tacoma\nA brewer of imperial IPAs\, Adam Robbings of Reuben’s Brews in Seattle shined a spotlight on triple IPAs in 2014 launching the Washington Hop Mob Mop Triple IPA Roadshow\, a series of triple IPA tasting events in Western Washington. The two-week event was a smash(ed) success. In 2015\, Kim and Kendall Jones\, the dynamic duo of the Washington Beer Blog\, Beer Church and 12 other beer-related hugs\, grabbed the hop by the brave new world and led Hop Mob down the road. The triple IPA celebration returns Feb. 1 with a 3 p.m. kickoff at Brouwer’s Café in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood. Thirty-two Washington state triples will be in the Café. Smaller triple IPA showcases — the Kendalls call them Roadshow events — will follow for nine days straight across Western Washington\, from Vancouver to Snohomish and over to Yakima. Peaks and Pints will host Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow Tacoma from 11 a.m. to 11p.m. Friday\, Feb. 3. \nBelieve it not\, Triple IPAs are style such a new style that most national competitions (including the Great American Beer Festival) have yet to recognize it as its own distinct category\, forcing most of the high-alcohol\, hopped-to-hell beers to compete under “Imperial/Double IPA” headers. But the actual line between a double and a triple IPA is amorphous at best. \nSome say that any IPA over 10 percent alcohol by volume should be considered a triple. Still\, beers that might fit the ABV and hop-burn requirements are still labeled as a double IPA\, leaving the term “triple IPA\,” at this point\, more of a marketing preference than an official style. \nWhat can be said is triple IPAs have outrageous amounts of dry hops\, hop flavor\, malt flavor\, alcohol and bitterness. The Triple IPA may be similar to a Double IPA in hop character\, but is differentiated from the style by a thick\, syrupy body accented by intense hop resins that make it a heavy sipping beer. Confused? \nWhat they are\, really\, is a chance to explore hop extremes and laugh at titles. Humonkulous. Insanity. Boom Boom Boom. Knock Three Times. And this is why Washington Hop Mob is still so vital\, so important. \nPeaks and Pints will tap eight triple IPAs during our Roadshow event: 7 Seas Brewing\, Backwoods Brewing\, Bale Breaker Brewing\, Georgetown Brewing\, Matchless Brewing/Triceratops Brewing collaboration\, Reuben’s Brews\, Sumerian Brewing and Wet Coast Brewing. \nWashington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow is a thrilling\, hilarious\, kaleidoscope of wayward\, brewing energy and excess; nothing you can ever do can prepare you for the onslaught. As it should be. As is the whole point\, really. \nFor more information on the Washington Hop Mob\, and to scan the other participating Roadshow venues\, visit wahopmob.com. \nWASHINGTON HOP MOB TRIPLE IPA ROADSHOW TACOMA\, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday\, Feb. 2\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Tacoma Beer Week: Thurston County Craft Bounty
DESCRIPTION:“It’s the water.” \nNo matter if you’re a beer drinker or not\, you’re likely familiar with the famed Olympia Beer motto of yesteryear. Whether describing the easy-to-drink suds that helped make the town famous\, the Bud Inlet that helps give it character and beauty\, the artesian wells that pump vitality into downtown\, or simply the constant drizzle\, there’s a reason “It’s the water\,” has outlived production of the iconic beer it was coined to sell. \nAfter all these years\, it’s still the water. And Thurston County’s beer roots run as deep as its famous artesian wells. In 1896 successful Montana brewer Leopold Schmidt opened the Capital Brewery after discovering the famous artesian water was ideal for brewing beer. Originally housed in a stackhouse in Tumwater\, and eventually renamed Olympia Brewery\, it was a significant player in the region’s sudsy brew movement. The brewery slogged through Prohibition during the early 20th century and ownership changes 50 years later. The brewery closed in 2003 when its parent company shuttered the Tumwater plant and moved the production operation to Irwindale\, California. In 1993\, Crayne and Mary Horton led a dozen Thurston County investors in opening Fish Brewing Company\, South Sound’s first craft brewery. It wasn’t until 15 years or so later that several Thurston County craft breweries followed Fish’s lead. \nPeaks and Pints will salute the craft breweries and cidery of Thurston County during the 2017 Tacoma Beer Week. Wednesday\, Aug. 9 we welcome Fish Brewing\, Three Magnets Brewing\, Top Rung Brewing\, Matchless Brewing\, Triceratops Brewing\, O-Town Brewing and Whitewood Cider. The brewers and staff from the breweries will be in the house with two kegs each. \nIt might be all about the water\, but these folks know how to use it. \nTACOMA BEER WEEK: THURSTON COUNTY CRAFT BOUNTY\, 6 p.m. Wednesday\, Aug. 9\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover
