SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints hosts Chuckanut Can Release Party
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints hosts Chuckanut Can Release Party\nChuckanut Brewery co-owner Mari Kemper returns to Peaks & Pints with lagers\, giveaways\, and her trademark charm. Yes\, Mari was in the house this past November. Yes\, we have invited her back to our craft beer and cider bar\, bottle shop\, and restaurant in Tacoma’s Proctor District. You would\, too\, if you had a giant beer cooler. The Burlington\, Washington\, brewery has added Pilsner and Kolsch cans to their core line-up — and we’re celebrating with a Chuckanut tap takeover and cans to-go from 5-8 p.m. Thursday\, Feb. 20. Chuckanut will also take over our five-taster flight Thursday. \nFor those who don’t know the Chuckanut Brewery story. … In 1984\, chemical engineer and homebrewer Will Kemper and his culinary crackerjack wife Mari left Boulder\, Colorado\, opened Thomas Kemper brewery on Bainbridge Island\, Washington\, and quickly moved it to Poulsbo. In 1992\, Thomas Kemper merged with Hart Brewing\, which became Pyramid Breweries. The Kempers signed a non-compete and left to become consultants with East Coast and international breweries. The Kempers took their non-compete and helped build the craft beer scene in North Carolina\, Pennsylvania\, Massachusetts\, Washington DC\, Mexico\, and Turkey. \nAfter traveling\, they moved to Bellingham\, where they opened Chuckanut Brewery in 2008. This convergence of technical and engineering concepts developed from more than two decades of professional involvement with craft brewing at home and abroad. They hired Josh Pfriem as their head brewer\, and later\, Kevin Davey grabbed the head brewer paddle. In late 2016\, Chuckanut launched a new 40-barrel production facility\, Chuckanut South Nut\, in Burlington. They closed Bellingham in mid-October 2021. \nTune in to Grit & Grain Podcast Episodes 50 and 51 to hear Mari and Will Kemper fill in the blanks with their accomplishments and amazing stories on their journey to open Chuckanut Brewery in 2008. Then\, head to Peaks & Pints on Thursday\, \nPEAKS AND PINTS HOSTS CHUCKANUT CAN RELEASE PARTY\, 5-8 p.m. Thursday\, Feb. 20\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover \nLINK: Peaks & Pints beer and cider cooler inventory

SUMMARY:Grit & Grain Podcast goes with the Flow
DESCRIPTION:Grit & Grain Podcast goes with the Flow\nCommencement Bay is one of the brightest spots of hope for environmental restoration — thanks to the work of Communities for a Healthy Bay\, or CHB. On March 1\, the opening day of Tacoma Beer Week 2025\, a local institution that lives and dies by clean water\, Silver City Brewery in Bremerton\, joins forces with South Sound Surfrider for a community beach cleanup near Old Town Tacoma followed by the Gose With The Flow sour beer collaboration release party at Peaks & Pints in Tacoma’s Proctor District. \nFollowing the success of last year’s Tacoma Beer Week community clean-up sessions\, this year’s festivities include a beach clean-up at the Les Davis Pier and Jack Hyde Park near Old Town Tacoma from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday\, March 1. After the Saturday afternoon beach clean-up\, go with the flow to Peaks & Pints for the Silver City and Communities for a Healthy Bay unique ocean-inspired sour beer Gose with the Flow release party from 2-4 p.m. The CBH team traveled to Bremerton to brew Gose With The Flow\, a refreshing\, tart\, and subtly herbal sour crafted with regionally renowned lemon balm and San Juan Island sea salt\, echoing the crisp essence of Puget Sound. The crushable gose with bright citrus notes and a whisper of salinity will be a worthy reward after several hours of bagging garbage on the shores of Commencement Bay. \nThe Grit & Grain Podcast will sit with the Communities for a Healthy Bay folks and Silver City Brewery owner Scott Houmes to discuss the collaboration at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday\, Feb. 19\, in the Peaks & Pints Events Room. All are welcome to join us for the hour-taping. For the uninitiated\, beer gurus Matt McLaren (Orcas Distributing)\, Ron Swarner (Peaks & Pints)\, and Bethany Carlsen (The Funk Busters) explore and celebrate the craft beer industry\, community\, and history in Tacoma\, Washington\, and surrounding Pacific Northwest region\, with assistance from opinionated beer industry insiders recording at Peaks & Pints on Wednesday afternoons. Engineered by Doug Mackey of Channel 253\, you can hear the three India Pale Yale graduates and featured guests every Friday as they think and drink in a room completely devoid of oxygen so as not to degrade the beer. \nRead the full story at peaksandpints.com. \nGRIT & GRAIN PODCAST WITH COMMUNITIES FOR A HEALTHY BAY AND SILVER CITY BREWERY\, 4:30 p.m. Wednesday\, Feb. 19\, Peaks & Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Larrabee Lager Double Shot Wednesday
DESCRIPTION:Larrabee Lager Double Shot Wednesday\n  \nThe Pacific Northwest is blessed with many excellent breweries producing superb lagers\, including Chuckanut Brewery\, Lowercase\, Wayfinder\, Heater Allen\, Gold Dot\, and\, since 2023\, Larrabee Lager Company in Bellingham\, Washington. That’s the long route to announcing that Larrabee Lager will be the Grit & Grain Podcast at Peaks & Pints in Tacoma on Wednesday\, Feb. 12\, and the reason for a tap takeover the same night at the same place. \n  \nEven though Larrabee Lager opened in the summer of 2023\, it’s still not widely known in the South Sound\, as its self-distribution didn’t go beyond downtown Seattle. That’s changing. Larrabee recently signed a deal with Orcas Distributing\, which distributes beer across Western Washington to markets up and down the I-5 corridor. Since Sam isn’t feeling well this week\, Kate will sit with the Grit & Grain Podcast at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday\, February 12\, in Peaks & Pints’ Events Room. Afterward\, the party flows into Peaks’ main room for a Larrabee tap takeover. The Peaks’ Wednesday beer flight will also be Larrabee lagers. SUMMARY:Grit & Grain Podcast at Brew Five Three
DESCRIPTION:Grit & Grain Podcast at Brew Five Three\nIt was a sweltering mid-80s degrees and the Grit & Grain Podcast players Matt McLaren\, Sean Jackson\, Ron Swarner\, and Producer Doug Mackey shuffled around the Chambers Bay grounds with 1\,300 other sweaty beer tasters\, shifting between booths emblazoned with names of the breweries invited by Tacoma Arts Live’s Brew Five Three Beer & Music Festival to serve the sunscreen masses last year. SUMMARY:Grit & Grain hosts Fast Fashion at Peaks & Pints June 19
DESCRIPTION:Grit & Grain hosts Fast Fashion at Peaks & Pints June 19\nThe Grit & Grain Podcast will host Fast Fashion Brewing co-owner and The Masonry founder Matt Storm for a double episode in the Peaks & Pints Events Room from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday\, June 19. Peaks will tap several Fast Fashion beers to enjoy during the podcast. \nIn 2018\, art took Stillwater Artisanal Ales founder Brian Strumke to Seattle\, where he met Matt Storm\, owner of The Masonry\, the man known for his intensely curated beer list and wood-fired pizza. In 2020\, the pandemic paused Strumke’s nomadic lifestyle and\, allowing him to dive into Storm’s concept for a new brewery\, Fast Fashion. The duo began brewing a series of small batch beers paired with a smart\, fashionable Instagram account. Fast Fashion became its own fashion tribe of line-out-the-door beer culture. In the beginning\, Fast Fashion operated as a contract brewery\, but it now has two storefronts — a brewery and taproom in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood on First Avenue just a couple blocks south of T-Mobile Park and a taproom on Roy Street next to his Masonry Pizza in the Lower Queen Anne neighborhood. \nJoining Storm on the mic will be his Masonry business partner\, Sam Morin\, and Fast Fashion Sales Executive Sarah Moorman. \nLINK: Peaks & Pints beer and cider cooler inventory

SUMMARY:Grit & Grain hosts Great Notion at Peaks & Pints
DESCRIPTION:Grit & Grain hosts Great Notion at Peaks & Pints\nThe Grit & Grain Podcast welcomes Great Notion Brewing co-founder Paul Reiter for an early afternoon recording session Wednesday\, June 12 in Peaks & Pints’ Events Room with many Great Notion beers flowing from Peaks’ Western red cedar tap log. \nIn 2016\, Paul Reiter\, James Dugan\, and Andy Miller opened Great Notion and stunned Portland\, Oregon with their New England-style IPAs and boundary-pushing culinary-style beers. The awards followed: World Beer Cup\, GABF\, Best of Craft Beer Awards\, and Oregon Beer Awards\, as well as the 2018 #1 IPA in America from Paste Magazine\, Ripe IPA. Great Notion was the first Portland brewery to become known for hazies — controversial style that traditionalists snubbed. Now the traditionalists are all wearing Great Notion T-shirts. In addition to their hazies\, the brewery’s barrel program offers award-winning American sour ales aged for 9-24 months in oak barrels with portion of their sour ales blended with Oregon fruit and freshly emptied bourbon barrels age their imperial stouts on ingredients such as roasted coffee\, vanilla beans\, chocolate\, and maple syrup. \nJoin the Grit & Grain crew at 2 p.m. Wednesday\, June 12 for Episode 98 with CEO Reiter telling the Great Notion’s story while sipping his hazy IPAs and barrel-aged stouts. \nGRIT & GAIN HOSTS GREAT NOTION AT PEAKS & PINTS\, 2 p.m. Wednesday\, June 12\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover \nLINK: Peaks & Pints beer and cider cooler inventory

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints: A Barleywine Carol 2023
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints: A Barleywine Carol 2023\nA mean-spirited\, miserly old man named Marmaduke Ruggles sits in his Castle Bank on a frigid Dec. 19 night. His clerk is bored to tears because Ruggles refuses to spend money on barleywine and Christmas music. Ruggles’ nephew\, Tom Wilcher\, pays his uncle a visit and invites him to “A Barleywine Carol” at Peaks & Pints Wednesday\, Dec. 20. Ruggles reacts to his nephew’s invite visitors with bitterness and venom\, spitting out an angry “Bah barleywine and Christmas carols!” in response to his nephew’s “Merry Christmas!” \nLater that night in his dark\, cold apartment\, Ruggles receives a chilling visitation from the ghost of his dead partner\, Chuck Cranston\, followed by adventures with the ghosts of Christmas Barleywines Past\, Present\, and Future. Deeply moved and shedding tears of regret\, the final ghost returns Ruggles to his bed. \nWednesday\, Dec. 20\, Ruggles awakes with joy for the chance to redeem himself and grateful that he has been returned in time to drink eight different barleywines on tap at Peaks & Pints\, and possibly stay to hear beer industry veteran and Steeplejack Beer Sales Guru Tim Ensign chat with the Grit & Grain Podcast in Peaks’ Event Room at 4:30 p.m. He sends country ham and corn pudding to his clerk’s house and walks through Peaks’ door at 11 a.m. to the stifled surprise of the other guests. As the years go by\, Ruggles holds true to his promise and honors barleywine and Christmas music with all his heart. \nPEAKS AND PINTS: A BARLEYWINE CAROL 2023\, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday\, Dec. 20\, Peaks & Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover \nLINK: Peaks and Pints beer and cider cooler inventory

SUMMARY:Grit and Grain Episode 75: Scott Travis and Lambics
DESCRIPTION:Grit and Grain Episode 75: Scott Travis and Lambics\nLambics — whether straight lambics\, faro\, gueuze\, or fruit based — are produced only in one area of Belgium\, the Senne River Valley\, south and west of Brussels in the Pajottenland region. Officially speaking\, lambic is an appellation — like “Champagne” and “bourbon” — and the use of the l-word is strictly enforced and reserved for beers made exclusively in said region. Most important of all\, they’re beers that are spontaneously fermented by the airborne wild yeasts and bacteria present in this valley and nowhere else on the face of the Earth. The real beauty of these ales is how different they are from brewery to brewery\, batch to batch\, barrel to barrel. Hell\, the beer even changes with each sip down the glass. Adventure is out there. Scott Travis is also out there\, but we nabbed the longtime\, local beer expert for his thoughts on lambics\, koelships\, Brettanomyces\, unmalted wheat\, gueuze\, and his time spent in the industry. Hang with us at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday\, Dec. 13\, in Peaks & Pints Events Room for an afternoon of lambics and laughs. \nGRIT & GRAIN EPISODE 75: SCOTT TRAVIS AND LAMBICS\, 4:30 p.m.\, Wednesday\, Dec. 13\, Peaks & pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover \nLINK: Peaks & Pints beer and cider cooler inventory

SUMMARY:Grit & Grain Podcast Episode 74 Varietal Beer Recording
DESCRIPTION:Grit & Grain Podcast Episode 74 Varietal Beer Recording\nChris Baum\, John Cope\, Chad Roberts\, David Paulson\, and Karl Vanevenhoven opened Varietal Beer Co. in April 2018 in the Port of Sunnyside between Yakima and the Tri-Cities in Eastern Washington. The ownership all had a variety of dreams and life goals\, but their Venn diagram centered on owning a brewery in the Yakima Valley. After earning the Enterprise Challenge held annually by the Yakima County Development Association and the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce\, Varietal became a thing.
