SUMMARY:Breakside Brewery Lodge Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Breakside Brewery Lodge Meeting\nJoin Peaks & Pints Thursday\, Nov. 21\, as we welcome our friends from Breakside Brewery. On this night\, we will pour seven new drafts from this renowned brewery from Portland\, Oregon! \nDon’t miss your chance to try this special lineup of beers — including French Quarter Rye Barrel Aged Barleywine\, Lavender Fizz Gin Barrel Aged Ale\, and Kellerfest. \nBREAKSIDE BREWERY LODGE MEETING BEER LIST\nComing Out Party NE-IPA: Originally a collaboration with Comrade Brewing in Denver\, this a high octane hazy hits hard with tropical\, dank\, and citrus-heavy Taiheke\, Mosaic\, and Vic Secret. The hops are couched in a pillowy malt base that makes the finish super soft. 7.8% 92 IBU \nFrench Quarter Rye-BA Barleywine: Inspired by the flavors of New Orleans famous Vieux Carré cocktail\, this is a luscious and rich rye-wine style ale. Three types of malted rye form the base of this extravagant beer\, which then aged for 15 months in American brandy barrels. Find aromas of nougat\, red grape\, chocolate malt ball\, marshmallow\, sweet caramel\, and orange in this complex ale. 9.9% 40 IBU \nHop Delivery Mechanism IIPA: Originally developed at Breakside’s Dekum pub in 2015\, Hop Delivery Mechanism is double dry hopped with Azacca and Citra hops\, while the “So Cal trinity” of Amarillo\, Simcoe\, and Columbus anchor down the kettle and whirlpool. The intense hop character comes across as juicy and dank with big notes of orange marmalade\, mango\, and Froot Loops. 8.5% 68 IBU \nKellerfest: When Breakside’s brewmaster studied in Germany\, he fell in love with the unfiltered\, ruddy\, amberish lagers from legendary Bavarian and Franconian breweries such as Hacker-Pschorr and Paulaner. Kellerfest is inspired by these lagers — it balances bready malt notes with German noble hop flavors\, and the result is a refreshing\, uncommon lager. 5% 25 IBU \nLavender Fizz Gin-BA Ale: Inspired by the family of Fizz cocktails\, Breakside aged a citrusy\, golden pale ale in second-use Old Tom Gin casks from small distillers around Oregon\, then conditioned it on two types of culinary lavender. 6.1% 21 IBU \nSmashbang IPA: Originally designed with Figueroa Mountain Brewing with soft ester-forward yeast\, clean European malts\, and an international array of hops to break some new ground in hop-forward beers: Waimea\, Wakatu\, and Galaxy. This IPA is a fruity hop bomb with notes of melon\, passionfruit\, starfruit\, and peach. 6% 44 IBU \nThe Body Electric Wood-Aged Sour: A mixed culture sour beer that was fermented and aged in oak barrels from two of Breakside’s favorite Oregon wineries. A blend of several different lots of beer from their wood cellar\, the finished product comes from 15 casks of beer brewed between August and November 2017. After nearly two years in barrel\, this beer showcases a complex array of vinous and fruity notes\, including pie cherry\, pineapple\, and fruit cocktail. Balanced acidity couples with a medium-high level of tannin from aged hops and oak for an elegant and multilayered finish. 6.4% 6 IBU

SUMMARY:Tacoma Beer Week: Hopnificent 6 vs Big Lebowski
DESCRIPTION:Tacoma Beer Week: Hopnificent 6 vs Big Lebowski \nSimply put\, The Big Lebowski is one of the funniest films ever made\, and infinitely rewatchable. Jeff Bridges plays “the Dude\,” a laid-back\, easygoing burnout who happens to have the same name as a millionaire whose wife owes a lot of dangerous people a whole bunch of money. The plot of this Raymond Chandler-esque comedy crime caper from Joel and Ethan Coen pivots around a case of mistaken identity complicated by extortion\, double-crosses\, deception\, embezzlement\, sex\, marijuana and gallons of White Russian cocktails. The Dude abides. Peaks and Pints will host Tacoma Beer Week: Hopnificent 6 vs Big Lebowski at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Aug. 15 — screening the film\, organize a bowling party at neighboring Chalet Bowl and pouring craft beer from the Hopnificent 6: Breakside Brewery\, Ecliptic Brewing\, Fort George Brewery\, Pike Brewing\, Reuben’s Brews\, and Standard Brewing. \nWho are the Hopnificent 6? \nThey are six dudes who keep Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log flowing with delicious craft beer. For the third Tacoma Beer Week in a row\, Peaks and Pints will allow Joe from Breakside\, Kyle from Ecliptic\, Hoyt from Fort George\, Jon from Pike\, Conrad from Reuben’s and Ken from Standard to have the run of the joint. This year\, they could arrive wearing bathrobes\, purple jumpsuits\, carrying rugs\, or donning classic bowling attire as depicted in The Big Lewbowski. The Hopnificent 6 abide. \nAt 6 p.m. Thursday\, Aug. 15\, Peaks and Pints will pouring the Hopnificent 6 beers will hosting a Big Lebowski trivia contest. Around 7 p.m.\, all those who want to bowl will walk over to Chalet Bowl for no-host bowling with many opportunities to win prizes. When the clock strikes 8\, it’s back to Peaks and Pints for The Big Lebowski on the big screen cheering the unemployed Los Angeleno\, some nihilists\, a missing rug\, a missing wife and lots of bowling. \nPeaks and Pints encourages appropriate costumes and all the Dudeisms. Yes\, it’s very Dude to space on this one\, but don’t be the Dude in this case and join us for a fun Tacoma Beer Week night. \nTACOMA BEER WEEK: HOPNIFICENT 6 VS BIG LEBOWSKI\, 6 p.m.\, Thursday\, Aug. 15\, 7 p.m. no host bowling at Chalet Bowl\, 8 p.m. film screening\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:The Oligarchs are coming! The Oligarchs are coming!
DESCRIPTION:The Oligarchs are coming! The Oligarchs are coming!\nThe word oligarch first came into wide use in and about Russia in the 1990s; back then\, it referred to men who had built their fortunes on the ruins of the Soviet economy and then used their wealth to obtain political power. In Putin’s mafia state\, oligarchs have surrendered their autonomy — and any political ambitions — in exchange for wealth. In Breakside Brewery’s craft beer state\, The Oligarch has surrendered its flavor to bourbon barrels for two years before being exiled to Peaks and Pints bottle shop\, taproom and restaurant in Tacoma’s Proctor District. \nPeaks and Pints will host the Tacoma release party for Breakside’s The Oligarch bourbon barrel-aged British imperial stout and its six variants 5-8 p.m. Thursday\, Feb. 28 — the last day of Peaks and Pints February Stout Month. \nThe Oligarch. The “original” beer is a single batch of British imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels for more than two years in the making. Next\, the Breakside brewers replaced their Russian fur brewer bibs for scientist lab coats adding a variety of ingredients to the base British imperial stout. \n“This is also the first time we’ve blended different-aged batches of the same wood-aged stout into a finished blend\, which gives The Oligarch incredible nuance\,” says Breakside Brewmaster Ben Edmunds in a media release. “When we took on this project\, we approached each blend seriously\, trying to create a whimsical\, balanced\, and delicious set of flavors. I hope that people enjoy drinking these beers as much as we enjoyed creating and blending them.” \nThe Oligarch project encompasses 84 casks\, resulting in 122 barrels of finished beer. Beers that will pour from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log Thursday include: \nThe Oligarch: An imperial stout blended from four different batches of stouts aged in bourbon barrels\, this craft beer is rich\, sticky\, sweet and aggressive. \nMaple Oligarch: The maple bourbon barrels from Bissell Maple Farm in Jefferson\, Ohio provide a ton of complexity\, offering an especially nerdy delight to be found in this intense and rich beer. \nCandy Cap: This variant is made with one of the Pacific Northwest’s most beguiling foodstuffs: candy cap mushrooms. Their intense brown sugar smell helps create a sweet-then-savory sensation that dovetails perfectly into some of the strong oxidative notes of the casks. \nBocconotto: Aged on cinnamon bark\, toasted almonds\, chocolate and a touch of lemon zest\, this beer is an ode to one of Breakside’s favorite Italian pastries\, a specialty of southern Italy. \nChampurrado: Comprised of eight of the richest casks from the series and inspired by the flavors of Mexican champurrado\, Breakside aged this stout on a mix of cacao nibs\, vanilla bean\, and toasted corn. \nPiedmontese: The most elegant variant in this series\, this beer was fashioned on the off-sweet cakes of northern Italy. Breakside conditioned this blend of maple barrel-aged stouts on Oregon-grown hazelnuts and vanilla bean and added a touch of sea salt for depth. \nCoco Breakfast: Breakside grabbed inspiration from Edmunds’ favorite childhood breakfast cereal and loaded up the cocoa and vanilla for a beer that works for dessert — or breakfast. \nTHE OLIGARCHS ARE COMING! THE OLIGARCHS ARE COMING!\, 5-8 p.m. Thursday\, Feb. 28\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Tacoma Beer Week 2018: The Hopnificent Seven
DESCRIPTION:During last year’s Tacoma Beer Week\, Director Mike Bosold staged The Hopnificent Seven\, a remake of the classic 1960 Western with an all-star cast of brewery sales executives\, a wide-ranging arsenal of hops and some funny lines at Peaks and Pints bottle shop\, taproom and restaurant in the Proctor District. Bosold is back with Tacoma Beer Week 2018: The Hopnificent Seven starring some new faces\, a wide-ranging arsenal of hops and some funny lines. \nPeaks and Pints was allowed five minutes with Bosold during his pedicure to ask questions. Sure\, we walked away a little scared but thrilled top hear sales executives from Breakside Brewery\, Fort George Brewery\, Pike Brewing\, Ecliptic Brewing and Reuben’s Brews will be returning with two new faces: Matchless Brewing and Three Magnets Brewing. \nWill Tacoma Beer Week 2018: The Hopnificent Seven return as a western? \n“This year’s theme is craft beer\,” chuckled Hoyt Smith\, sales executive with Fort George Brewery. “Nothing fancy\, just great beer and community.” \n“Yeehaw!” We mean\, “cool.” \nTACOMA BEER WEEK 2018: THE HOPNIFICENT SEVEN\, 6 p.m. Thursday\, Aug. 9\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Tacoma Beer Week: The Hopnificent Seven
DESCRIPTION:The Hopnificent Seven\, a remake of the classic 1960 Western (itself a remake of the 1954 Japanese film The Seven Samurai ) comes with an all-star cast\, a wide-ranging arsenal of hops and some funny lines. Directed by Mike Bosold\, an award-wining shorts storyteller\, The Hopnificent Seven is a tale of primary hop additions and dry-hopping during Tacoma Beer Week. When roughians invade the mountain-themed Peaks and Pints bottle shop\, taproom and restaurant of Basecamp Proctor\, leaving just sours and malt heavy craft beers in their wake\, Click Wholesale Distributing brings in hop hunter Pacific Brewing and Malting Co. to take the roughians out and replenish the lodge with hop-heavy hitters. But Pacific Brewing needs help\, so they round up a diverse group of hopslingers (pFriem Family Brewers\, Double Mountain Brewery\, Fort George Brewery Pike Brewing\, Ecliptic Brewing\, Breakside Brewery and Reuben’s Brews). While it isn’t always clear why these craft breweries are risking their tanks to help the people of Basecamp Proctor\, their journey\, and the ultimate hop throwdown\, makes for enjoyable drinking. \nTHE HOPNIFICENT SEVEN\, 6 p.m. Monday\, Aug. 7\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover
