DESCRIPTION:Engine House No. 9\, Parkway Tavern and Peaks and Pints will take sour sophistication to the next level when the three Tacoma craft beer houses kick off Tacoma Beer Week 2018 with Barrel Cruise\, a sour beer education session and bus tour featuring New Belgium Brewing Company’s Wood Cellar Director Eric Salazar\, Firestone Walker Brewing’s live-beer program Barrelworks Director Jeffers Richardson and E9 Brewery’s brewer Donovan Stewart on Sunday\, Aug. 5. \nKicking off at 2 p.m. inside Engine House No. 9’s upstairs lounge\, three of the most prolific sour beer purveyors in the nation — Salazar\, Richardson and Stewart — will lecture on the history\, brewing procedure\, cellaring and drinking of sour beers\, forever eliminating “That’s not beer” from beer lexicon and championing the Limburger cheese of beer. At 5 p.m.\, the 50 Barrel Cruise riders will take their newly acquired sour knowledge and put it to use drinking all the New Belgium barrel sours at Peaks and Pints before boarding the bus again for a 7 p.m. barrel sour session with Firestone Walker at the Parkway. The bus will return to the Engine House at 9 p.m. where riders loaded with new bitchin’ swag\, will no doubt leave their “This is like drinking a rind of a grapefruit” T-shirts in the backseat of their Uber on the way home. \nTickets for the Aug. 5 Tacoma Beer Week Barrel Cruise are $100 each\, which includes several hours of education and sampling by New Belgium’s Eric Salazar\, Firestone Jeffers Richardson and E9 Brewery’s Donovan Stewart at the Engine House No. 9. The ticket price also includes bus transportation to Peaks and Pints and the Parkway Tavern\, where riders will drink New Belgium and Firestone Walker barrel-aged sours\, respectively. Swag will also be included. Peaks and Pints wants to add bourbon barrel-aged alcohol to your Wednesday night. \nPeaks and Pints will host a can release party for Tieton Cider Works Bourbon Barrel Peach cider at 5 p.m. Wednesday\, June 5. Inspired\, we’ll tap a few beers that have spent some time in spent bourbon barrels\, too. \nWhy? Because barrel aging is totally a thing. Well\, it has been for centuries. Before industrialization\, Europeans fermented beer in wood\, stored and shipped in wood\, and poured directly from wood. Beer spoiled often. Life was hard. By the mid-20th century\, most breweries had happily traded their temperamental wooden barrels for the reliability and convenience of metal tanks. Beer spoiled less. Life was decent. However\, brewers and cidermakers have long known that wood-aging can add flavor and depth to beer\, especially if said barrel previously contained bourbon. The result is a beer and cider more complex than most\, as additional flavors bleed from inside the staves — deeper woody notes that play to the liquid’s base and an extended taste that finishes with a nip of booze. \nThis year\, Tieton’s popular Bourbon Barrel Peach cider (6.9%) was aged in previously used Dry Fly bourbon barrels. Aging in bourbon barrels gives the cider deep\, rich notes of vanilla and spice. DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints Dark Days of Thanksgiving 2024\nDarkness once again descends on Peaks & Pints during Thanksgiving week. \nStarting at 11 a.m. Monday\, Nov. 25 and running through 11 p.m. Friday\, Nov. 29\, some of the elusive elixirs that will course their ways through Peaks & Pints draft lines including darkness from AleSmith\, Alesong\, Bombastic\, Firestone Walker\, Fremont\, Goose Island\, Matchless\, Oakshire\, pFriem\, Prairie\, Siren Craft\, and others. \nPeaks & Pints will be really dark Thanksgiving Day as we’ll be closed. \nIn addition to the dark drafts\, as well as daily dark flights\, Peaks & Pints will invade our dark cellar. \nThere is no admission for this event\, and all Dark Days of Thanksgiving ales will be priced individually by the glass or 5 oz. tasting pours in the flights.
