DESCRIPTION:Finnriver Cidery Tap Takeover at Peaks & Pints\nThe last time NW Beverages distribution company reached excitement levels this high was when their sales executive Mike “Taco Boz” Bosold make homemade ice cream for the team. The Western Washington distributor just added Finnriver Farm & Cidery to their portfolio — and they’re celebrating with a Finnriver tap takeover at Peaks & Pints Thursday\, March 7. \nOn the northeast corner of the Olympic Peninsula is an extension of land called the Quimper Peninsula\, named after Manuel Quimper\, a Spanish Peruvian explorer\, cartographer\, naval officer\, and colonial official. The narrow peninsula became the home of towns Port Townsend\, Chimacum\, Glen Cove and Fort Worden\, just to name a few. Today\, Quimper Peninsula is home to some of the best cideries in Washington state\, including Finnriver in Chimacum. \nAndrew Byers\, a botanist\, wordsmith\, and Le Cordon Bleu chef turned cidermaker\, has been managing microbial populations at Finnriver for almost eight years; before that he helped produce estate-grown sparkling cider in cider orchards of upstate New York.  He mastered an academic emphasis in fungal ecology and systems thinking/design to the forefront of his home cider production\, as well as a deep knowledge of tree fruit. It’s going down Saturday\, April 20\, at Peaks & Pints in Tacoma’s Proctor District. \nDJ Big Tim Slade\, aka Tim Ensign\, will be spinning and repping Steeplejack Beer this Saturday. For more than 25 years\, Ensign has grown various successful beer projects from the ground up and continues to choose “just the right time\, at just the right place” — including Oregon breweries Fort George Brewery and now with the incredible up-and-coming Steeplejack Beer. DESCRIPTION:Put your Vortex Hands together for Fort George and Block 15\nIt’s been a whirlwind 17 years for Fort George Brewery. The Astoria\, Oregon\, started with an actual whirlwind and this month\, created a whirlwind with their flagship Vortex IPA. This April 2024 they are celebrating Vortex Month\, a great time to revisit or try an all-new version of the now classic Oregon IPA. You can try them all Thursday\, April 25 at Peaks & Pints in Tacoma’s Proctor District. We’ll be tapping Vortex IPA\, Double Dry Hopped Vortex\, Cryotex\, and Vortex Hands\, a collaboration with their friends at Block 15 Brewing\, plus other draft beers from the Fort George and Block 15. \nIn 2006\, Chris Nemlowill and Jack Harris flew to Virginia Beach\, Virginia\, to salvage an 8.5-barrel Saaz brewing system and drive it across the country to install it in their soon-to-open Fort George Brewery in Astoria. While traveling with the equipment strapped to a flat bed\, they met up with a tornado that nearly spread the brewery across a Nebraska cornfield. This became the inspiration behind the name Vortex IPA. Before the tornado\, though\, their U-Haul broke down in Rabun County in northeastern Georgia. The tow truck driver said\, “You’re not from around here\, are you?” They replied\, “No\, we’re from Astoria where The Goonies was filmed.” The tow driver replied\, “Well\, you’re about 30 miles away from where Deliverance was film. You best get out of here.” \nJoining the OG Vortex for Peaks & Pints’ celebration of Vortex Month will be Double Dry Hopped Vortex\, which is like Vortex but with way more Vortex in it. We’re also tapping Cryotex\, the original Vortex recipe but made with Cryo and CGX Hops from Yakima Chief and Crosby Hop Farms. Rounding out our celebration will be Vortex Hands\, a collaboration with Block 15 Brewing from Corvallis. It’s like Vortex\, but with the spirit of Block 15’s strong\, smooth\, and piney Sticky Hands\, or maybe it’s Sticky Hands with the spirit of a bright and balanced Vortex. \nIt will be a whirlwind of deliciousness Thursday night at Peaks & Pints. Voting will resume at 6 p.m. live at the Tournament of Beers Party at Peaks & Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St. in Tacoma’s Proctor District. Ballots will be handed out\, which will also serve as raffle tickets for a Yeti Cooler plastered with stickers from nominated Tournament breweries.
