SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints Dune SudsPop
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints Dune SudsPop\nPeaks and Pints will host a Dune SudsPop Wednesday\, Aug. 14 starring the man who championed Tacoma’s Dune Peninsula\, sci-fi author and Metro Park Board Commissioner Erik Hanberg\, with music by hometown musician Doug Mackey\, who grew up in the shadow of Dune Peninsula’s former occupant\, the ASARCO smelter. Toss in Tacoma’s historical brewery\, Pacific Brewing & Malting Co.\, and you can’t get more Tacoma than Peaks and Pints Dune SudsPop. \nFor the past year\, Peaks and Pints has hosted SudsPop nights pairing a brewer\, an exclusive one-off beer brewed by the special guest brewer and a chosen artist or band in our East Wing events room. The Tacoma Beer Week Dune SudsPop will be the first time the host isn’t a brewer\, although Pacific Brewing brewers will be in the house. \n“The theme in ‘Dune’ of a world destroyed by environmental catastrophe drew in part from Frank Herbert’s life experiences in Tacoma\, which in the 1950s was one of the nation’s most polluted cities\,” said Park Board Commissioner Erik Hanberg\, in a media release. “The characters in the novel have a goal to ‘terraform’ their planet back to its inhabitable origins. That’s what we’ve done here. We have terraformed a polluted wasteland into a beautiful environment for all to enjoy.” \nFor more details\, visit Peaks and Pints Tacoma Beer Week Dune Night. \nPEAKS AND PINTS DUNE SUDSPOP\, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday\, Aug. 14\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, $14 RSVP at our bar for first 20 people.

SUMMARY:Tacoma Beer Week: Hopnificent 6 vs Big Lebowski
DESCRIPTION:Tacoma Beer Week: Hopnificent 6 vs Big Lebowski \nSimply put\, The Big Lebowski is one of the funniest films ever made\, and infinitely rewatchable. Jeff Bridges plays “the Dude\,” a laid-back\, easygoing burnout who happens to have the same name as a millionaire whose wife owes a lot of dangerous people a whole bunch of money. The plot of this Raymond Chandler-esque comedy crime caper from Joel and Ethan Coen pivots around a case of mistaken identity complicated by extortion\, double-crosses\, deception\, embezzlement\, sex\, marijuana and gallons of White Russian cocktails. The Dude abides. Peaks and Pints will host Tacoma Beer Week: Hopnificent 6 vs Big Lebowski at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Aug. 15 — screening the film\, organize a bowling party at neighboring Chalet Bowl and pouring craft beer from the Hopnificent 6: Breakside Brewery\, Ecliptic Brewing\, Fort George Brewery\, Pike Brewing\, Reuben’s Brews\, and Standard Brewing. \nWho are the Hopnificent 6? \nThey are six dudes who keep Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log flowing with delicious craft beer. For the third Tacoma Beer Week in a row\, Peaks and Pints will allow Joe from Breakside\, Kyle from Ecliptic\, Hoyt from Fort George\, Jon from Pike\, Conrad from Reuben’s and Ken from Standard to have the run of the joint. This year\, they could arrive wearing bathrobes\, purple jumpsuits\, carrying rugs\, or donning classic bowling attire as depicted in The Big Lewbowski. The Hopnificent 6 abide. \nAt 6 p.m. Thursday\, Aug. 15\, Peaks and Pints will pouring the Hopnificent 6 beers will hosting a Big Lebowski trivia contest. Around 7 p.m.\, all those who want to bowl will walk over to Chalet Bowl for no-host bowling with many opportunities to win prizes. When the clock strikes 8\, it’s back to Peaks and Pints for The Big Lebowski on the big screen cheering the unemployed Los Angeleno\, some nihilists\, a missing rug\, a missing wife and lots of bowling. \nPeaks and Pints encourages appropriate costumes and all the Dudeisms. Yes\, it’s very Dude to space on this one\, but don’t be the Dude in this case and join us for a fun Tacoma Beer Week night. \nTACOMA BEER WEEK: HOPNIFICENT 6 VS BIG LEBOWSKI\, 6 p.m.\, Thursday\, Aug. 15\, 7 p.m. no host bowling at Chalet Bowl\, 8 p.m. film screening\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints Tacoma Beer Week: Coffee Beer Chat
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints Tacoma Beer Week: Coffee Beer Chat \nAfter coffee’s popularity spread in the 1960s with the advent of instant coffee from companies like Folgers\, major chains like Starbucks made drinking coffee an experience for the masses with customizable espresso drinks. Following these two “waves\,” the third wave brought about heightened interest in quality and artisanship that can be compared to craft beer’s meteoric rise. Professionals today carefully roast and brew specialty beans to draw out the best flavor. As part of Tacoma Beer Week\, Bluebeard Coffee\, Kulshan Brewing\, Peaks and Pints and professionals in the artisan and craft beer communities will offer an educational approach about the nuances of coffee and beer and what happens when these nuances merge into a new product thus a new experience with a new product in the Peaks and Pints Tacoma Beer Week: Coffee Beer Chat at 6 p.m. Friday\, Aug. 16. The events will be also be a fundraiser for healthy waters (dear to both coffee and beer industries) by donating certain amount of the proceeds of this event to Tacoma’s Citizens for a Healthy Bay. \n“It will be the perfect pint of coffee beer\,” laughs Kulshan Brewing sales Executive Katie Johnson. “Yes\, Peaks and Pints will tap many coffee beers\, including the coffee lager Bluebeard and Kulshan collaborated on\, which is enough of a reason to attend this Tacoma Beer Week event. But\, when we add an educational element with Bluebeard roasters\, Kulshan Head Brewer Wesley Finger\, BJCP judges\, and high level Cicerones — plus raising money to keep Commencement Bay clean — well that’s a hug in a mug\, er\, pint.” \nPeaks and Pints Tacoma Beer Week: Coffee Beer Chat pours two ways at 6 p.m. Friday\, Aug. 16. In Peak’s main room\, the Western red cedar tap log will be buzzing with all the coffee beer — both local and national — plus a coffee beer flight. In Peak’s events room\, BJCP Johnson will host a casual lecture/discussion/conversation and Q and A with Finger\, Bluebeard Wholesale Manager Evan Bridges\, Bluebeard Head Roaster Magdalena Ramos-Shafer and high-level Cicerone Matt McLaren\, to name a few. \n“Bluebeard will give a quick introduction to coffee\, origins\, and the process of cupping\,” says Johnson. “From there\, Wes will discuss the art of brewing with coffee beans and cold brew. Finally\, expect a brief and casual sensory training from McLaren as he walks the audience through Peaks’ coffee beer flight of the day. Finally\, the coffee and beer experts will open it up to questions.” \nProceeds from the coffee beers and beer flights will be donated to Citizens for a Healthy Bay. For 29 years\, Citizens for a Healthy Bay has brought people together to achieve a clean and healthy Commencement Bay that benefits both our community and the surrounding ecosystem that calls Puget Sound home. \nPEAKS AND PINTS TACOMA BEER WEEK: COFFEE BEER CHAT\, 6 p.m. Friday\, Aug. 16\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints Pacific Northwest Cider Invitational 2019
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints Pacific Northwest Cider Invitational 2019\nJust as the world is collectively turning its back on the gnarly inedibility of the Red Delicious — the more aromatic Gala may now be the no. 1 apple grown in America — so\, too\, has cider moved far beyond its sickly-sweet reputation. When Peaks and Pints Pacific Northwest Cider Invitational returns to anchor Tacoma Beer Week Sunday\, Aug. 18\, it will brim with more than 20 craft ciders and cider cocktails whose flavor profiles extend from barnyard funk to pleasantly astringent. Representing Washington\, Oregon and Idaho\, the Pacific Northwest Cider Invitational 2019 showcases regional variations and plucky endeavors. \nUltimately\, cider is a regional product\, and not every part of the country has access to the best varieties of apples to make it. Even if a grower planted an orchard today\, it would be at least seven years before those trees produced their first fruit. Not only are Washington and Oregon two of the country’s biggest states for beer and wine\, but the Pacific Northwest is leading the way with craft ciders\, too. It makes sense\, especially as Washington leads the nation in apple production (171 million bushels in 2018). Additionally\, the anything-goes\, have-fun-and-get-creative attitude of the Pacific Northwest lends itself well to the creation of craft products. \nLet’s have fun and get creative with a bunch of Pacific Northwest cider Sunday\, Aug. 18 at Peaks and Pints. \nPEAKS AND PINTS PACIFIC NORTHWEST CIDER INVITATIONAL 2019\, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday\, Aug. 18\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Friends of Friends of Tacoma Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints has recently realized that we have an issue with getting rid of old books. Most books that we let through our front door tend to stay in our house for life. We wanted to figure out a way to stop giving books a forever home. But\, you know. Life. Now\, we were like\, “This is dumb. Peaks and Pints needs to just go to the damn library.” If we were going to keep wanting new books\, this would be at least one sure-fire way to stop keeping them — they weren’t ours. If no one ever explained how awesome the library could be\, we’re here to tell you: Tacoma Public Library is awesome! \nPeaks and Pints will host “Friends of Friends of Tacoma Public Library” at 6 p.m. Wednesday\, Aug. 21. Friends of Tacoma Public Library is a non-profit organization dedicated to the active promotion\, welfare\, and support of the Tacoma Public Library through advocacy\, funding\, and volunteer support. Peaks and Pints digs their mission\, “to foster wider awareness of Library services and to build a strong relationship between the Library and the community which it serves.” Therefore\, we’ll donate proceeds from all draft sales\, 6-9 p.m.\, Aug. 21\, to the Friends’ efforts to support children’s literacy programs. \nEven if you’re constitutionally unlikely to join us in fan-girling out over the Tacoma Public Library\, you can’t argue with its merits. In fact\, we guarantee\, after your first library visit\, you’ll walk out feeling like you robbed the place. It’s really almost too good to be true. \nWait\, did someone say there are late fees? Nothing in life is perfect. But the Tacoma Public Library comes pretty damn close. \nFRIENDS OF FRIENDS OF TACOMA PUBLIC LIBRARY\, 6-9 p.m. Wednesday\, Aug. 21\, peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp proctor\, Tacoma\, 21+\, no cover (except on books)

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints: South Sound Beer and Cider Week
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints: South Sound Beer and Cider Week\nThurston County’s beer roots run as deep as its famous artesian wells. In 1896 successful Montana brewer Leopold Schmidt opened the Capital Brewery after discovering the famous artesian water was ideal for brewing beer. Originally housed in a stackhouse in Tumwater\, and eventually renamed Olympia Brewery\, it was a significant player in the region’s sudsy brew movement. The brewery slogged through Prohibition during the early 20th century and ownership changes 50 years later. The brewery closed in 2003 when its parent company shuttered the Tumwater plant and moved the production operation to Irwindale\, California. In 1993\, Crayne and Mary Horton led a dozen Thurston County investors in opening Fish Brewing Company\, South Sound’s first craft brewery. It wasn’t until 15 years or so later that Top Rung Brewery and several Thurston County craft breweries followed Fish’s lead. In celebration of the inaugural South Sound Beer & Cider Week (Aug. 16-25)\, Peaks and Pints hosts elder Top Rung Brewing and younger Well 80 Brewhouse and Headless Mumby Brewing at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Aug. 22 for a night of craft beer perfect for a summer night. \nHEADLESS MUMBY BREWING: In November 2018\, Alex Maffeo and Keith Ciani opened Headless Mumby brewery and taproom in west Olympia\, specializing in lagers. Headless is a salute to the song “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner” by Warren Zevon. Ciani is a rabid fan. Mumby is a reference to a defunct logging and shingle mill from the early 1900s which operated in the area where Maffeo now lives. This past June\, Headless Mumby grabbed gold for its Smoked Rye Lager and Very Small Brewery of the Year at the 2019 Washington Beer Awards. \nTOP RUNG BREWING: The Lacey brewery opened in April 2014 with awarding-winning homebrew recipes and two owners with full-time jobs. Today\, Thurston County firefighters Casey Sobol and Jason Stoltz have put Lacey on the craft beer map with solid craft beers back with solid business sense. Top Rung Brewing has moved higher and higher up the ladder: Its beers can now be found on draft and in bottles throughout Western Washington. \nWELL 80 BREWHOUSE: Downtown Olympia is home to 96 artisan wells\, and Chris Knudson’s business just happens to occupy No. 80. Knudson open Well 80 Brewhouse — a brewery\, bar and all-ages restaurant — in the Spring of 2018. Well 80 head brewer Paul Pearson\, previously of Fish Brewing Co.\, brews beer using well 80 artisan well water. \nHappy South Sound Beer and Cider Week! \nPEAKS AND PINTS: SOUTH SOUND BEER AND CIDER WEEK\, 6-9 p.m. Thursday\, Aug. 22\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Ecliptic Brewing 5 Beers for 5 Years: Bell’s Brewery
DESCRIPTION:Ecliptic Brewing 5 Beers for 5 Years: Bell’s Brewery\nIn celebration of their fifth year traveling round the sun\, Ecliptic Brewing created the Cosmic Collaboration series\, “5 Beers for 5 Years\,” in which the Portland\, Oregon brewery brews celestial concoctions with five other esteemed breweries. Peaks and Pints hosted the first three collaborations — Brooklyn Brewery in April and Firestone Walker in May and Breakside Brewery in July. We’re opening the pod bay door again for Ecliptic’s fourth Cosmic Collaborator\, Bell’s Brewery of Comstock\, Michigan\, at 6 p.m. Friday\, Aug. 30. \nEcliptic Brewing owner and brewmaster\, John Harris\, worked with Bell’s founder Larry Bell to create the Juicy IPA (8.5%) brewed with 2- row\, Pale and Munich malts\, along with Oregon Strata hops and two hop varieties from New Zealand — Galaxy and Taiheke — but it’s the beer making process that really brings out the unique flavor. Harris\, Bell\, and Bell’s director of operations\, John Mallett\, added ice to the whirlpool to lower the temperature\, which helps reduce bitterness and bring out the hops’ flavors. This results in a big\, bright and juicy IPA. \nECLIPTIC BREWING 5 BEERS FOR 5 YEARS: BELL’S BREWERY\, 6 p.m. Friday\, Aug. 30\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, no cover \nLINK: Ecliptic Brewing 5 Bears for 5 Years: Brooklyn Brewery \nLINK: Ecliptic Brewing 5 Bears for 5 Years: Firestone Walker Brewing \nLINK: Ecliptic Brewing 5 Bears for 5 Years: Breakside Brewery

SUMMARY:Revision Night at Peaks and Pints Tacoma
DESCRIPTION:Revision Night at Peaks and Pints Tacoma\nJoin Peaks and Pints Wednesday\, Sept. 11\, as we host the hop attack of Revision Brewing. On this night\, we will host brewery founder Jeremy warren\, while pouring many of his craft beers\, including Beer Bong For M’Lady IIPA\, Skunkwerks and Separation Imperial Milk Stout. \nJeremy Warren is widely admired for his mastery of hops\, especially with his signature beer style\, India pale ale. In 2012\, his Knee Deep Brewing Co. exploded onto the scene when the brewery’s Hoptologist won the prestigious Bistro Double IPA competition in Hayward\, California\, besting the legendary Pliny the Elder\, among others. In 2015\, Warren left everyone knee deep in tears when he departed the brewery. In March 2017\, he and his head brewer\, Jeb Taylor\, opened Revision Brewing Company in Sparks\, Nevada. He began pounding taste buds with his lupulin-laden creations once again. \nThere is no admission fee for this event. All Revision beers will be priced individually by the glass\, although a flight will be available. You’ll probably cry with happiness. \nREVISION NIGHT AT PEAKS AND PINTS TACOMA\, 6 p.m. Wednesday\, Sept. 11\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Have A Cigar at Peaks and Pints
DESCRIPTION:Have A Cigar at Peaks and Pints\nJoin Peaks and Pints Thursday\, Sept. 12 as we host the official Tacoma debut of Cigar City Brewing Company. On this night\, we’ll tap all the Tampa Bay brewery’s available beers\, including Wedgecut Wheat and Humidor IPA\, their cedar-aged ale that grabbed a GABF gold medal in the Wood Aged Beer category. \nIn 2005\, founder and president of Cigar City Brewing\, Joseph “Joey” Redner\, knew Tampa Bay needed a local brewery to package and sell beer. He just didn’t know that it would be him opening it. Until\, he did. Redner received $850\,000 in start-up money to start the brewery\, incorporating in October 2007. Cigar City has been collecting accolades since their official inception in 2009\, including numerous appearances on RateBeer.com’s Top 10 Breweries Worldwide. Along with Oskar Blues Brewery\, Perrin Brewing\, Squatters Craft Beers and Wasatch Brewery\, Cigar City Brewing is a part of CANarchy\, a craft brewing collective that represents the largest canned craft beer supplier in the country. Luckily for us\, the Florida brewery is finally ready to enter the Tacoma market full time! \nThere is no admission fee for this event. All Cigar City beers will be priced individually by the glass\, plus a beer flight in 5 oz. tasting pours. \nHAVE A CIGAR AT PEAKS AND PINTS\, 6 p.m.\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Fly With Friendly Beer Guys
DESCRIPTION:Fly With Friendly Beer Guys\nIt was the French in the 1870s who made the first paper toys based on the idea of flight: paper and feather ornithopters\, fanciful helicopters\, balloons\, and eventually airships. French toy makers also offered one of the first models of the Wrights’ plane in 1908. \nSauvignon blanc is a green-skinned grape variety that originates from the Bordeaux region of France. The grape most likely gets its name from the French words sauvage (“wild”) and blanc (“white”) due to its early origins as an indigenous grape in South West France. \nThese two French inventions will collide at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Sept. 19 when Peaks and Pints hosts the release party for the Wingman Brewers and Airways Brewing Nelson Sauvin\, Sauvignon Blanc hazy double IPA collaboration — complete with paper airplane contest. Brewed with Nelson Sauvin hops\, the IPA receives a healthy addition of Sauvignon blanc wine grapes for a grape nose. We’ll also tap other craft delights from the two airplane-themed breweries. \nLadies and gentlemen\, the brewers have turned on the Fasten Seat Belt sign. If you haven’t already done so\, please stow your carry-into luggage underneath the barstools. Please take your seat and construct your paper airplanes. And also make sure your friend is in a full upright position. \nCheers! \nFLY WITH FRIENDLY BEER GUYS\, 6 p.m. Thursday\, Sept. 19\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Elysian Pumpkin Road Show Tacoma
DESCRIPTION:Elysian Pumpkin Road Show Tacoma\nDo you love pumpkin beer? Do you love a sweet\, malty\, gourd-based ale layered over with cinnamon\, clove\, nutmeg\, allspice\, ginger and maybe some honey? Would you wait up all night in a pumpkin patch with Linus and Lucy to taste a ginger pumpkin pilsner? Then\, you’ll be thrilled to hear the Elysian Pumpkin Road Show Tacoma returns to Peaks and Pints Thursday\, Sept. 26. \nDuring the Elysian Pumpkin Road Show at Peaks and Pints\, the Seattle brewery will serve pumpkin beer out of an actual hollowed-out giant pumpkin flowing through two taps\, orange spheres will fly through the air into Solo Red Cups and a giant jar of pumpkin seeds will wait for the best count guess. \nNo\, we do not mess around with autumn celebrations here at Peaks and Pints. \nThursday\, Peaks and Pints will host the third annual Elysian Pumpkin Road Show Tacoma\, a prefunk to the Seattle brewery’s grand pumpkin affair that includes 80-plus pumpkin beers Oct. 4-5 — the Elysian Great Pumpkin Beer Festival at the Seattle Center. Peaks and Pints will pour Elysian pumpkin beers Gourd Father pumpkin barleywine\, Hansel & Gretel Ginger Pumpkin Pilsner\, Old Fashioned orange pumpkin strong ale\, Punkuccino Coffee Pumpkin Ale and others. \nIn addition to the pumpkin beers\, we’ll present a pumpkin firkin\, pumpkin beer pong\, pumpkin seed guessing and giveaways\, including two pairs of tickets to the Great Pumpkin Beer Festival in Seattle. \nFall has long been the season of the gourd. Pumpkins are the stars of spice lattes; pie and farmers grow them so large that they’re no longer measured in pounds\, but in tons. But the simplest pleasure when it comes to the pumpkin is — cue Billy Corgan — drinking gobs of them from a pint. \nELYSIAN PUMPKIN ROAD SHOW TACOMA\, 6 p.m. Thursday\, Sept. 26\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover
