SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Stoup Brewing and Stephanie Anne Johnson
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Stoup Brewing and Stephanie Anne Johnson\nIt’s nothing new\, really: mystics and poets and theorists have pondered the “music and beer reciprocity” (or musica beeralis) for eons; it is the stuff of philHOPsophy\, linking sacred alpha acids\, mathematics\, glucose molecules\, harmonics\, ethyl acetate and music into one big fermentation drum circle. \nTranslation: You don’t have to look very far to understand that human beings adore beer and music and hops and rhythm\, and then link this everyday source of life straight from the brite tank\, and then back out to your Apple AirPods. \nIn other words\, you love IPAs\, R&B? Bavarian hefeweizens? Gospel? Stephanie Anne Johnson with a pint of Stoup Brewing Robustier Porter in the tub? Sure you do. That’s because somewhere\, somehow\, deep in your very cells and bones and DNA\, it links you back to source\, to the science of own vibration\, the pulse of your Id. Oh yes it does. To tap your foot and sway your body to Stephanie Anne Johnson’s “Outtasight” tune is\, in effect\, to sway it to the roar of a centrifuge. We mean\, obviously. \nBrewing science and music will reciprocate Wednesday\, Jan. 16 when Stoup Brewing co-founder\, head brewer and chemist Brad Benson and Tacoma musician Stephanie Anne Johnson will sift and measure and quantify into a logical and mystical night at Peaks and Pints SudsPop VIP Night. \nBenson\, a scientist to the very last DNA strand\, will discuss the science behind brewing Stoup beer before tapping his feet to Johnson’s “No Diggity” via acoustic guitar. Johnson\, who studied opera and conquered five weeks on “The Voice\,” will drop jaws with her soulful\, rockin’ voice after drawing Venn diagrams of Benson’s craft beer theories on her sheet music. \nAnd the 20 people who bought a ticket\, well\, will just bounce and sway along as best they can while drinking an exclusive Stoup beer\, trying to piece together their brains that Benson just burst. \nPlease join us 7-9 p.m. Wednesday\, Jan. 16 in the Peaks and Pints East Wing for an incredible night of beer and song. \nTickets are $14 plus tax\, which includes the special event Stoup beer\, nibbles from Peaks and Pints kitchen and\, of course\, all the beer education and music. There’s a limit of 20 people. Tickets are available at Peaks and Pints. \nPEAKS AND PINTS SUDSPOP: STOUP BREWING AND STEPHANIE ANNE JOHNSON\, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday\, Jan. 16\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, $14 presold \n \nStephanie Anne Johnson – Black Horse and the Cherry Tree from thevoicebr.com on Vimeo.

SUMMARY:Sierra Nevada Resilience Camp Fire Benefit
DESCRIPTION:Sierra Nevada Resilience Camp Fire Benefit\nWhen the Camp Fire started in the hills above Sierra Nevada Brewing‘s Chico brewery Nov. 8\, 2018\, it soon became the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history. The fire burned more than 153\,000 acres\, killed at least 85 people\, and destroyed more than 18\,000 buildings. \nIn its wake\, Sierra Nevada put out the call for aid to every craft brewery in America\, asking them to take part by brewing batches of Resilience Butte County Proud IPA\, getting their suppliers to donate malt\, yeast and hops to 1\,400 volunteer breweries across the country who have agreed to pitch time and staff hours. All sales proceeds will go to Sierra Nevada’s Camp Fire Relief Fund\, which the brewery has set up to help fund long-term rebuilding and support efforts in Butte County\, where the fire took place. \nPeaks and Pints wants to do our part by partnering with Sierra Nevada and donating all proceeds from Resilience Butte County Proud IPA draft sales to Camp Fire relief Thursday\, Jan. 10. We’re tapping our keg of Resilience this Thursday! We’ll also be accepting monetary donations that evening and will send 100 percent of those donations to the fund. In addition to other Sierra Nevada craft beer\, we’ll tap the Resilience IPA from two local breweries owned by firefighter: Top Rung Brewing and Wet Coast Brewing. \nCome grab a pint or three and support an amazing cause! \nSIERRA NEVADA RESILIENCE CAMP FIRE BENEFIT\, 6 p.m. Thursday\, Jan. 10\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N.26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, donations accepted

SUMMARY:Starring Northish Beer Feat. Tim Curry as The Darkness
DESCRIPTION:Starring Northish Beer Feat. Tim Curry as The Darkness\nWednesday\, Jan. 9\, Peaks and Pints will be invaded by fantastical creatures\, witness a battle between darkness and light\, be visited by a beautiful\, innocent maiden and the unicorn she loves\, kneel before the bright-red\, horny glory Lord of Darkness\, and — most importantly — be drenched in glitter. \nEnter a world of unicorns\, magic swamps\, dwarves and rainbows when Northish Beer Co. transforms our weekly Lodge Meeting into a ludicrous\, middle ages fairytale starring the Tacoma brewery’s glitter imperial oatmeal stout\, “Feat. Tim Curry as The Darkness.” \n“We were enamored with the visual style of infamous Ridley Scott’s fantasy film\, Legend\,” says R.J. Adler\, sales executive for Northish. “The film is drenched in glitter. So we embarked on a grand experiment to capture the film’s themes of light and darkness in a glitter beer. Built on a recipe of a rich\, dark imperial oatmeal stout\, the oats lighten up the roast\, revealing a delicate cocoa note. And\, we named the beer for the best actor in the movie\, ‘Feat. Tim Curry as The Darkness’.”  \nLegend was a flop when it came out in 1985. Most criticisms of the film then\, and now\, cite the good/evil clichés at the center of the plot\, the overly dark tone of the film and Tom Cruise’s flat performance. But\, as Adler notes\, the film is visually remarkable including the forest shot inside of a studio and Tim Curry’s Academy Award-nominated makeup. Speaking of Curry\, even though this movie represents a lull in Cruise’s career between Risky Business and Top Gun\, Curry is especially good in his bombastic personification of Darkness. \nPeaks and Pints will screen a closed caption version of Legend on our 130-foot screen while (hopefully) mystically dressed guests sip on Feat. Tim Curry as The Darkness\, as well as other Northish craft beers including cold-conditioned Festish German Lager\, Werifesteria barrel-fermented saison and Wolf Link IPA. Katie Lowry of The Warehouse will DJ. \nLegend had Tom Cruise\, unicorns\, and the director of Blade Runner behind the camera. Why did Ridley Scott’s fairy tale end so unhappily? Discuss it over a glass of glitter. \nSTARRING NORTHISH BEER FEAT. TIM CURRY AT THE DARKNESS\, 6-9 p.m. Wednesday\, Jan. 9\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints New Year’s Eve Cider Social

SUMMARY:A Barleywine Carol
DESCRIPTION:A Barleywine Carol\nYou fancy yourself cultured\, don’t you? You do. It’s so obvious. If only you knew how obvious it is. You’re one of the special people: You’ve been to Europe (Eastern Europe\, no less)\, you speak French\, you’re dying to get to Hong Kong\, you’ve at least tried to read Proust (and\, as it was last year\, it’s a resolution for the new year)\, you love both Spike Jonze and Douglas Sirk. We’re impressed. \nBet you ain’t never drank no barleywine\, fancy pants. Peaks and Pints offers you the chance to enjoy a half dozen or more at 7 p.m. Thursday\, Dec. 20. It’s our annual A Barleywine Carol party where we pair barleywines with live bluegrass from Tacoma’s amazing Barleywine Revue band. It’s a hoot. \nDespite its name\, the barleywine is indeed a beer but at wine strength — ranging as low as 7-percent alcohol by volume in British versions and upwards of 15 percent in American interpretations. The focus is traditionally on big malts\, though American brewers tend to hop them up\, which provides even more diversity and interesting flavors across the board. \nBarleywine is a huge beer\, both in flavor and alcohol content. It’s the color of deep maple wood; it has a tiny head and not all that much carbonation. As a result\, it sort of glides past the taste buds. Unlike most of those Frankenstein beers that have fruit added to them\, nothing’s forced or contrived about barleywine. It is what it is: a big\, brawny beer\, one that will fill you up\, then lay you down on the floor and give you sweet\, sweet kisses on the cheek. \nA BARLEYWINE CAROL\, 7 p.m. Thursday\, Dec. 20\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Bale Breaker New Can Design Release Party
DESCRIPTION:Bale Breaker New Can Design Release Party\nBale Breaker Brewing Co. has released new can designs for its core four beers: Topcutter IPA\, Bottomcutter IIPA\, Field 41 Pale Ale and Leota Mae IPA. The Yakima Valley brewery has loaded an RV with the new cans and will tour the Pacific Northwest\, stopping at Bottles in Spokane Dec. 18\, Belmont Station in Portland Dec. 19\, Peaks and Pints at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 20 and The Beer Junction at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 20. \nBale Breaker’s holiday beer tour is a natural progression in the evolution of the beer can. \n4\,300 BC – Oldest-known written recipe — a formula for beer — inscribed in clay cuneiform tablet. The Babylonians try to package their Suck It Sumerian Stout in a log. \n500-1000 AD – The first half of the Middle Ages\, brewing begins in European monasteries and convents; hops added to process. Bring Out Your Dead IPA was packaged in a clay pot. \n1490 – Columbus finds Native Americans making beer from corn and tree sap in the Bahamas. First Caribbean bar fight breaks out when Columbus tried to steal their beer by dumping it in coconuts. \n1620 – Mayflower docks at Plymouth Rock; ship’s log notes landing hastened by fears over dwindling supplies\, “especially our beere.” The Puritans pointed fingers at the Pilgrims who hide the beere in iron pots. \n1810 – Englishman Peter Durand introduces a method for sealing food in “unbreakable” tin cans. \n1842 – Golden lager launched in Plzen\, Bohemia. “Girls Night Out” Pilsner Urquell drunken karaoke is invented. \n1844 – Milwaukee brewery later to become Pabst Brewing Company opens. Many years in the future\, Portland hiccups. \n1912 — The first commercial canning establishment in the U.S. was started by Thomas Kensett. \n1935 — Krueger Brewing Company of Richmond\, Virginia walked into a grocery store carrying a steel can that weighed in at almost 4 ounces and opened with a church key. \n2003 — Dale Katechis\, founder of Oskar Blues Brewery\, cans Dale’s Pale Ale\, Oskar Blue’s flagship American pale. The Canned Beer Apocalypse begins. \n2009 — 7 Seas Brewing is the first craft brewery in Washington state to can its beer. \n2013 — Bale Breaker Brewing releases Field 41 Pale Ale and Topcutter IPA in cans. \nDecember\, 2018 — Bale Breaker releases new can designs for its core four beers: Topcutter IPA\, Bottomcutter IIPA\, Field 41 Pale Ale and Leota Mae IPA. Each new can features an icon distinctive to each type of beer to help it stand out in the lineup of other craft brews down the beer aisle. They named the Topcutter IPA and Bottomcutter IIPA after the unique tractors used during harvest to remove hop vines from both the ground and the top of the trellis. The Field 41 Pale Ale after the hopfield their family plowed down to build the taproom\, and the Leota Mae IPA after the woman who started it all for them back in 1932 — the year before Prohibition ended. Each can features the tagline\, Fresh of the Farm that embraces the brewery’s rich history in hop farming in the Yakima Valley. One thing that stays the same however is each of the beer’s recipes. \nDec. 20\, 2018 — Peaks and Pints will host a Bale Breaker can label artwork release party from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Bale Breaker will park their RV outside Peaks and Pints with all the matching apparel and other new brewery merchandise. In addition to the mountain of cans\, we’ll tap a few fun tasty Bale Breaker beers on our Western red cedar tap log. \nBALE BREAKER NEW CAN DESIGN RELEASE PARTY\, 3:30-5:30 p.m.\, Thursday\, Dec. 20\, peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Holiday Hump Day with Huyghe Brewery
DESCRIPTION:Holiday Hump Day with Huyghe Brewery\nHuyghe Brewery produces Delirium Tremens in Melle\, Belgium. Leon Huyghe purchased the brewery in 1906 and named it Brouwerij Mounterij den Appel. The brewery would eventually adopt the name of its founder: Huyghe Brewery. This is one of the many facts you’ll learn at Peaks and Pints’ Holiday Hump Day with Huyghe Brewery at 6 p.m. Wednesday\, Dec. 19. \nIndeed. The name of the Belgian brewery is Huyghe\, not Delirium. Delirium Tremens debuted Dec. 26\, 1988\, more than 80 years after the brewery’s founding. Although it wasn’t Huyghe Brewery’s first beer\, Delirium Tremens remains its flagship. According to legend\, a tax collector felt himself gradually slipping into a state of unexpected drunkenness when he came up with the name\, “Delirium.” Whether he saw pink elephants remains unknown. Delirium Tremens is one of the most popular Belgian beers\, and for good reason. Its signature pink elephant logo and ceramic bottles have helped it become incredibly recognizable. The medium-bodied Belgian pale ale exhibits apple and pear aromas at the nose\, and features banana\, fruit\, spice\, and wheat flavors\, which you’ll discover Dec. 19 at Peaks and Pints. \nDelirium Noel and its bourbon barrel aged version\, Delirium Noel Barrel Aged Buffalo Trace\, will also flow from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log Wednesday. You could buy Delirium Noel based on the outstanding reputation of Delirium Tremens. You could also buy it for the fantastic flavors of candy sugar\, plums\, white raisins and rum-macerated apricots this dark\, 10 percent ABV Belgian ale delivers. Or you could buy it for the same reason we find ourselves picking up a bottle every year: there’s just no resisting a pink elephant in a Santa hat. \nAs part of the festivities during Holiday Hump Day with Huyghe Brewery\, you’ll receive a Delirium chalice to take home\, while supplies last. \nHOLIDAY HUMP DAY WITH HUYGHE BREWERY\, 6-9 p.m. Wednesday\, Dec. 19\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints Brown Out Night
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints Brown Out Night\nPeaks and Pints will celebrate the brown ale Thursday\, Nov. 29 pairing browns\, imperial browns and barrel-aged browns with brownies. \nOK\, before you give us crap\, let’s address the obvious: even though the brown ale is named for its color\, things aren’t quite that simple. To begin with\, the hues of this commonly misunderstood style can actually range anywhere from dark copper or amber to deep brown or sometimes ruby. The term itself was first coined by London brewers and referred to a whole family of classic British varieties\, such as their mild ale in the early 18th century. \nThere are really two types of brown ales nowadays — the more traditional British brown and its Americanized cousin. British browns can be dark\, rich and nutty\, and sport strong malt characteristics and most are brewed from 100 percent brown malt. American Browns share their British brethren’s caramel tones and rich malt backbone\, but tend to be markedly hoppier. Most brown ales are traditionally lower octane affairs and are drinkable by design. \nOK\, are we good? \nLet’s get to the goods. … At 6 p.m. Thursday\, Nov. 29\, Peaks and Pints will pour Against The Grain The Brown Note\, Boulevard Brewing Plaid Habit Imperial Brown\, The Lost Abbey Gnoel de Abbey Holiday Brown Ale\, Rogue Ales Hazelnut Brown Nectar and others. Peaks and Pints encourages you to wear brown\, too. \nWhat can brown do for you? \nPEAKS AND PINTS BROWN OUT NIGHT\, 6 p.m. to close\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Proctor District helping veterans this holiday season
DESCRIPTION:Proctor District helping veterans this holiday season\n  \nThe Proctor Business District in Tacoma’s North End is\, once again\, hosting “Start Your Giving Early\, ” a giving tree program helping veterans in need through Nov. 30. Charitable souls can pick up ornaments from participating Proctor District businesses and make less fortunate veterans’ wishes come true. To give back to those who served their country\, take an ornament\, fill the wish and return it to the participating locations before the end of the month. Peaks and Pints is one of six Proctor locations participating in the giving tree program. \n  \nAmerican Lake VA Hospital provided a list of needs for the giving trees\, including gift cards\, personal care items\, clothing items\, dental assistance and entertainment items such as crossword puzzles and word-search books. \n  \n“It gives us an opportunity to pause and remember all the sacrifices that were made by ordinary citizens who did extraordinary things to defend our country\,” said Ron Swarner\, co-owner at Peaks and Pints. \n  \nIn addition to Peaks and Pints\, the Start Your Giving Early trees are at Better Properties\, Proctor Station\, Umpqua Bank\, Waffle Stop and Wheelock Library\, all located in the Proctor Business District. Stop by these locations\, take a paper ornament off the tree identifying items veterans need and bring the item to one of the six locations before Dec. 1. \n  \nIf you have any questions about these programs\, call Umpqua Bank Community Manager Kelly Hale at (253) 926-4086.

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Seattle Cider and Kim Archer
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Seattle Cider and Kim Archer \nWith Thanksgiving approaching\, Peaks and Pints gives thanks daily for having Eric Willard and Kim Archer in our lives. We have known the Seattle Cider/Two Beers Brewing executive and award-winning R&B singer\, respectively\, for many years. We’re thrilled to host Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Seattle Cider and Kim Archer Wednesday\, Nov. 14 — a week earlier than typical SudsPop session due to the turkey holiday. \nEach SudsPop session features beer or cider insider\, an exclusive one-off beer or cider brewed by the guest brewery or cidery and a chosen artist or band in our East Wing events room. For the Nov. 14 SudsPop\, Willard will discuss how to open a cidery and what it takes to produce award-winning cider while Archer performs favorite from her vast repertoire —just her and her guitar. \nIn 2009\, with sales tripling in less than a year\, Two Beers Brewing Co. moved its full operation from a tiny spot in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood into a 2\,400 sq. ft. SoDo neighborhood brewery and tasting room. The brewery grew quickly. Tacoman Eric Willard\, who worked across the street at Tiny’s Organic\, wandered over to Two Beers and began a friendship with owner/head brewer Joel VandenBrink. Willard would often push aside his beer and help wash pint glasses and fill kegs. He would deliver kegs to Tacoma taverns on his way home. \nVandenBrink launched the Seattle Cider Company in August 2013\, with the help from his Two Beers sales rep and a former farm hand Willard. VandenBrink launched the cider company with only two products: Semi Sweet and Dry. VandenBrink didn’t launch with six to 10 products\, common with start-up craft breweries. He didn’t launch with experimental pineapple cider or pomegranate cider. No\, VandenBrink\, Willard\, up-and-coming cider savant Brent Miles and the Seattle Cider crew — with natural support from the Two Beers crew too — hit the market with two\, solid ciders. And the cider company sprouted big and wide. \nWhen you feel the music\, you feel the music. And Kim Archer feels the music. She has been active in the Tacoma music scene since 2004\, after she moved here from her hometown in Indiana. Archer’s powerful voice a la Janis Joplin and Chaka Khan commands the stage playing her own original songs rooted in old school soul\, funk and classic rock\, sultry blues and ballads while remaining a master at giving choice cover tunes the “Kim Archer treatment\,” such as the crowd pleasing “Shaft.” \nWillard will pour Seattle Cider’s holiday cider\, explain the science behind it\, as well as the in and outs of opening a cidery and answers question. Archer will perform her latest works\, as well as her popular hits. \nPlease join us 7-9 p.m. Wednesday\, Nov. 14 in the Peaks and Pints East Wing for an incredible night of cider and song. \nTickets are $14 plus tax\, which includes the special event ciders\, nibbles from Peaks and Pints kitchen and\, of course\, all the cider education and music. There’s a limit of 20 people. Tickets are available at Peaks and Pints. \nPEAKS AND PINTS SUDSPOP: SEATTLE CIDER AND KIM ARCHER\, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday\, Nov. 14\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, $14 presold

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints Scotch Scotch Scotch
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints Scotch Scotch Scotch\nPeaks and Pints adores this time of year. Time to pull the holiday season out of the box and throw it against the wall. Time to start talking about end of the year lists. Time for beers that taste better when there’s a wind chill — beers such as malty\, peaty\, boozy Scotch ale. Time for Peaks and Pints Scotch Scotch Scotch Thursday\, Nov. 8 — a night of Scotch ales at our bottle shop\, taproom and restaurant in Tacoma’s Proctor District. \nThe Scots gave us several beer styles: the gruit\, an ancient ale made with an eclectic array of herbs and spices; the Scottish ale\, full-bodied and malty; and the Scotch ale\, the biggest of the bunch. \nScotch Ales are similar to Scottish Ales in character\, but are usually sweeter\, fuller-bodied and much higher in alcohol content. Also known as “wee heavy\,” an adorable beerloquialism if there ever was one\, the brew is just a bit stronger than a standard ale would be\, hovering around 7 percent ABV — a couple of points higher than usual\, but enough to provide greater protection from the cold winds. In the 19th century Scotland\, they’d also be known as 160/-\, a nomenclature based on the now obsolete shilling currency. \nScotch Ales traditionally go through a long boil in the kettle for a caramelization of the wort. This produces a deep copper to brown in colored brew. Compared to Scottish ales\, they’ll be sweeter and fuller-bodied\, and of course higher in alcohol\, with a much more pronounced malty caramel and roasted malt flavor. \nThursday\, Nov. 8\, Peaks and Pints will tap AleSmith Wee Heavy\, Boundary Bay Scotch Ale\, Great Divide Claymore Scotch Ale\, Pike Kilt Lifter\, Sumerian Scotch Ale and Silver City Magnificent Bastard Scotch Ale\, to name a few. \nPEAKS AND PINTS SCOTCH SCOTCH SCOTCH\, 6 p.m. Thursday\, Nov.8\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Party
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Party \nIn 2011\, Tacoma musician and homebrewer turned professional brewer Matt Coughlin and four friends pointed their compass toward the Olympic National Park. They made their way through rugged terrain\, past thick rainforest and across melting snow along the Bailey Range Traverse. Trekking between Mt. Ferry and Pulitzer Peak the hikers came across the most enchanting spot to pitch a tent. They called it “Cool Camp.” Coughlin recounted his magical backpacking adventure as he and his fellow Double Mountain Brewery brewers guided Peaks and Pints through the brewing process of our new house IPA. As he recounted glorious mountain peaks and green valleys while we stirred hops inside the Hood River brewery we knew our IPA had a name: Cool Camp IPA. \nPeaks and Pints celebrates its two-year anniversary at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Nov. 1\, with the release of Cool Camp IPA. While it would be a near impossible task to duplicate the success and deliciousness of our first anniversary house IPA\, Two Beers Brewing’s Proctor Peaks IPA\, we knew Double Mountain Brewery had the chops\, and the hops\, to pull it off. Besides\, both Coughlin and owner Matt Swihart adore music and the Great Outdoors\, which is also Peaks and Pints’ jam. \n“As a nod to our mutual love of the outdoors and of beer\, we collaborated with an IPA that would go well with a gathering of friends\, sitting around a fire and chatting about adventures\,” says Coughlin. “Simcoe and Centennial — one of my favorite hop combinations — take the lead\, with substantial additions throughout the boil — 2\, 5\, and 3 pounds to be exact\, Tacoma’s area code — with more in the hop back and dry hop. Kolsch yeast provides a lightly fruited character\, supporting the hops and letting them shine. There’s enough weight in the malt bill to let some biscuit and cereal through but it’s light enough to carry along the adventure. Fermentation went well\, drying out to 1.5 degree Plato\, making for a clean\, easy-drinking IPA with a wonderfully dank evergreen and citrus aroma. Mellow on the bitterness\, high on aroma\, and easy to have more than one.” \nThursday\, Nov. 1\, when we tap the Double Mountain Cool Camp IPA at our second anniversary party\, you will witness the 6.6-percent\, 55 IBU autumn sunset orange beauty. You’ll breathe in its juicy evergreen\, ripe tangerine\, ruby red grapefruit and resin aroma. Your eyes will grow big as you sip Cool Camp’s ripe red citrus\, temperate forest that eases in to some melon and biscuit. By the second sip\, you’ll nod with approval of its clean pine\, bright fruit\, melon and mellow bitterness. \nPeaks and Pints will tap a few other Double Mountain delights\, and pump up the jams\, beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Nov.1. It would be cool if you joined us. \nLINK: The story behind Peaks and Pints Cool Camp IPA

SUMMARY:Stone Brewing and Tease Chocolates Halloween Party
DESCRIPTION:Stone Brewing and Tease Chocolates Halloween Party \nWilly Wonka inspired generations of kids to dream of owning a chocolate factory when they grew up — but Julie and Topher Farrell have achieved it in real life. Tease Chocolates isn’t a factory on the scale of Wonka’s\, and there’s no chocolate river in the Stadium District chocolate shop. But they do make their own chocolate from cacao beans\, which they turn into bars\, truffles and caramels\, all made by hand right there in the shop. \nAs part of Peaks and Pints’ second anniversary celebration\, we’re pairing Tease Chocolates treats with Stone Brewing Co. craft beer on Halloween night\, beginning at 6 p.m. We’ll pair five different Stone beers with a specific Tease caramel\, truffle or chocolate. Peaks and Pints sat down with Stone Brewing over a box of Tease treats\, which was kind of strenuous. Some beers we had to go back two to three times to see if they would work. Yeah\, we know. \nThe idea of beer and chocolate is not new\, as even Stone Brewing has brewed delicious stouts with chocolate. In fact\, chocolate and beer pairing dates back to the ancient Mayans. We’re not sure what inspired Mayans to pair chocolate with beer. They never played beer pong or debated the place of a lemon wedge in the hefeweizen\, but they were all over fermented-corn beverages. Their chocolate apparatus featured a spout to aerate the frothy hot liquid. Mayans must have discovered beer and chocolate make great mediums because they are both versatile and accommodating to other flavors\, while maintaining their own flavor profiles. Then again\, Mayans stuffed their dead mouths with corn. It’s a fact chocolate can enhance the beer just like beer can enhance the flavors of the chocolate. \nWe’ll update the exact pairing soon. We’re eating 25 more Tease treats to find the perfect pairing with our keg of 2014 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine. \nPro tip: Apparently\, avocado toast is now enough of a thing that it merits a Halloween costume that you can actually search for and buy on the Interwebz. \nSTONE BREWERY AND TEASE CHOCOLATES HALLOWEEN PARTY\, 6 p.m. Wednesday\, Oct. 31\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Cool Camp Week: Tacoma Girls Rock Benefit
DESCRIPTION:Cool Camp Week: Tacoma Girls Rock Benefit \nPeaks and Pints will celebrate its two-year anniversary with a series of prefunk celebrations kicking off Saturday\, Oct. 27 and running through Thursday\, Nov. 1. In honor of our Cool Camp IPA we brewed at Double Mountain Brewery in Hood River\, Oregon\, we’ve dubbed our string of anniversary parties\, “Cool Camp Week\,” with Double Mountain in the house for the beer release on our true anniversary date\, Nov. 1. \nPeaks and Pints’ Cool Camp isn’t the first cool camp in Tacoma. That honor goes to Tacoma Girls Rock Camp — an organization dedicated to empowering youth in the South Sound region through a music education camp. Peaks and Pints will host a fundraiser for Tacoma Girls Rock at 6 p.m. Tuesday\, Oct. 30\, as part of our second anniversary week. \nTacoma Girls Rock was founded in January 2016\, reaching recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit status eight months later. It helps “campers” form a band\, then assists in writing\, recording and performing an original song to the greater Tacoma community. Tacoma Girls Rock seeks to provide its campers with new experiences that encourage them to think about representation\, defy gender stereotypes\, practice collaboration in a creative environment and walk away with a tool for self-reflection and expression. \nThat rocks! \nMusic makes everything better. Garbage’s “Push It” turns the mundane task of vacuuming into a much more enjoyable task. Work at a telemarketer call center? Blondie’s “Call me” gives you hope customers will call you back. Piecing together Christmas gifts to Hole’s “Doll Parts” and you’ll add a bourbon barrel age stout and a smile to the task. OK\, the last one was a stretch\, but you get the point. Music makes everything better. \nTacoma Girls Rock knows it to be true. How about you? \nJoin us Tuesday\, Oct. 30 in support of Tacoma Girls Rock Camp. Peaks and Pints will donate part of the proceeds from all draft sales that night to keep Tacoma girls rocking. \nCOOL CAMP WEEK: TACOMA GIRLS ROCK BENEFIT\, 6-9 p.m. Tuesday\, Oct. 3\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, donations accepted

SUMMARY:Dark Knight Craft Beer Cave
DESCRIPTION:Dark Knight Craft Beer Cave \nThe place is the City of Destiny. The time\, 2018 — once removed. \nThe pulsing heart of Tacoma\, a neon of pre-Halloween happiness on a Monday night: a nurse costume sipping a pilsner\, a Cat In The Hat look-alike clinking a pint of pale ale with what seems to be Big Bird clutching a tulip full of dry-hopped apricot sour beer\, and a Winnie The Pooh chugging a kolsch … as if heaven blanketed the city like a 4.6 percent winter wonderland. A dangling fat moon shines overhead\, ready to burst into a shower of Babybel cheese. \nOn top of Peaks and Pints in the heart of Tacoma’s Proctor District\, wooden gargoyles gaze down from their windswept perches\, keeping monstrous watch over the distant streets below\, sightless guardians of the Tacoma night. \nOne of them is moving … with a snifter full of bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. \nAs if lifeless\, the figure falls from Peaks and Pints’ towering roof taking flight just before smashing a Lime scooter. Caped in black\, it glides silently over the streets. \nBiff! Bam! Pow! The shadowy figure jettisons low ABV beers out of cheery revelers’ fingers. Chain restaurant after chain restaurant\, this Dark Knight\, if you will\, kicks yellow beer to the curb replacing it with a 5-ounce liquid invite to Peaks and Pints’ Dark Knight Craft Beer Cave night Monday\, Oct. 29. The Bumble Bee costume receives Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout\, the Cowgirl wrangles an Avery Raspberry Truffale\, the Mermaid gives up a Corona for a The Bruery So Happens It’s Tuesday\, the Sailor is handed a Port Brewing 2015 Older Viscosity Imperial Stout\, Shakespeare now sips a Modern Times Devil’s Teeth Bourbon Barrel-Aged English Old Ale\, Supergirl can now toast with a Fortside 2017 Barrel-Fied — one after another receives treats such as Ecliptic Barrel-Aged Oort Imperial Stout\, Fremont Bourbon Barrel-Aged Dark Star\, Hale’s Akademic Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout\, Prairie Artisan Ales imperial stouts\, Counterbalance Kushetka Imperial Stout and others. \nOne by one these dark beer converts creep into Peaks and Pints Monday\, Oct. 29 donning more haunting costumes\, surrounded by Goth and Darkwave tunes while sipping another round of what the “Dark Knight” presented them earlier in the night. \nA young woman with bat wings wanders the crowd asking for donations to EcoHealth Alliance to support bat conservation. \n“Sometimes the truth isn’t good enough\, sometimes people need more\,” announces the shadowy figure perched on top of Peaks and Pints’ cooler. “Cheers everyone!” \nDARK KNIGHT CRAFT BEER CAVE WITH BATS BENEFIT\, 6 p.m. Monday\, Oct. 29\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 No. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover \nLINK: Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Cool Camp Week\, Oct. 27-Nov. 1 \nLINK: Cool Camp Week: Beer Industry Geeks Flight Battle\, Oct. 27 \nLINK: Carnivale de Belgian Beerloo\, Oct. 28 \n

SUMMARY:Cool Camp Week: Carnivale de Belgian Beerloo
DESCRIPTION:Cool Camp Week: Carnivale de Belgian Beerloo \nRemember that movie shot in Belgium where Eva Green is a flinty authoritarian Mary Poppins-like human who can transform into a falcon and create loops in time\, within which she can eternally relive the same day in 1943 — hiding inside it in order to protect children born with physical and supernatural abilities for which society has rejected them? Well\, while they were there\, other less magical Belgians were producing more than 1\,100 varieties of beer\, a few you can taste at the second annual Carnivale de Belgian Beerloo Sunday\, Oct. 28\, an all-day nod to Belgian beers in conjunction with Peaks and Pints second anniversary week-long celebration\, Cool Camp Week. \nBelgian beer is known for having quite the alcohol content. It can be pricey\, but has quite the bang for the buck compared to our domestics. Each brand has their own special glass designed to accentuate the best attributes of the many types of beer. Many of the beers forumulations go back hundreds of years\, perfected by the Trappist Monks. In Belgium\, beer is so important to the culture and lifestyle you can still get Stella Artois delivered to your home\, just like the milkman! \nAnyhoo\, Peaks and Pints will open Oct. 28 with a Belgian beer tap takeover by Merchant du Vin Artisanal Imports and Total Beverage Solution. Expect Dupont Cuvee Dry Hopping\, Lindemans fruit beer\, Dupont Avec Les Bon Vouex\, Saison Dupont and other Belgian beers on draft and in flights\, plus other festivities. \nCOOL CAMP WEEK: CARNIVALE DE BELGIAN BEERLOO\, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.\, Sunday\, Oct. 28\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover \nLINK: Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Cool Camp Week\, Oct. 27-Nov. 1 \nLINK: Cool Camp Week: Beer Industry Geeks Flight Battle\, Oct. 27 \nLINK: Dark Knight Craft Beer Cave\, Oct. 29 \n  \n

SUMMARY:Beer Industry Geeks Flight Battle
DESCRIPTION:It will be a cold Saturday\, the kind of day that eats at a man\, makes him start thinking warm thoughts\, like heading to Peaks and Pints to participate in the Beer Industry Geeks Flight Battle\, maybe watching two men — one dressed in a TSA uniform and the other in a Hawaiian shirt — bludgeron the holy hell out of each other over beer. \nAs part of Peaks and Pints’ Cool Camp Week\, a week-long celebration of our second anniversary\, Rich Jamieson of Alpha Distributing and Mike Bosold of NW Beverages will pit five craft beers — a sour\, a lager\, an IPA\, a scotch ale and an imperial stout — from their respective catalog of breweries against each other in the Beer Industry Geeks Flight Battle — a lucha libre-like beer flight smackdown. \nThree years in the beer industry\, young buck Jamieson was on the opening team at Imbibe Bottle House and Taproom in Maple Valley before becoming the beer buyer at CRFT Beers in Auburn. He now sells AleSmith\, Boneyard\, Epic\, Knee Deep\, TRVE\, Wild Ride and other craft beer for Alpha Distributing. \nBosold\, on the other hand\, has seen some years in the beer business. As bartender in 2011\, he brought in craft beer at the Goldfish Tavern in Tacoma. Following a stint at the now defunct 99 Bottles\, he became the beer buyer for BevMo! in Washington state. Next\, after running the beer department and wicker section at Cost Plus World Market\, he became a sales executive at Click Wholesale Distributing\, which merged with The Odom Corporation to form NW Beverages. Bosold could pull from Bale Breaker\, Double Mountain\, Everybody’s\, Founders\, Modern Times\, pFriem\, Stone and hundred others. \nThe two Washington state beer distributor reps will fill five beer style slots from their brewery catalogs with Peaks and Pints customers picking the best beer flight. That’s right\, you judge; simply pick one of the two\, $12 flights and enjoy the deliciousness. When the clock strikes 11 p.m. the rep who sold the most flights wins. \nSaturday\, Oct. 27\, as you work through one of the two available flights\, you’ll raise one of your taster glasses saluting the two gentlemen. They each created the finest beer flight in all the land. You’ll close your eyes and sip the highly regarded imperial stout\, enjoying its rich bourbon flavor … until one of the two beer geeks knocks it out of your hands as he performs a kick-ass backflip off the bar top followed by a scruff-of-the-neck slam-down of his beer flight opponent. The audience will call for more blood. And beer. \nAlpha Distributing Beer Flight\nTaster One: Epic Brewing Oak and Orchard Cabernet Sauvignon Sour \nTaster Two: Barrel Mountain Brewing Luv Ya Lager \nTaster Three: Boneyard Beer Hop Venom \nTaster Four: Boundary Bay Scotch Ale \nTaster Five: AleSmith Brewing Celestial Dawn Speedway Stout \nor \nNW Beverages Beer Flight\nTaster One: Cascade Brewing Flamblanc \nTaster Two: pFriem Family Brewers Japanese Lager \nTaster Three: Melvin 2×4 DIPA \nTaster Four: Black Raven Brewing Second Sight Strong Scotch Ale \nTaster Five: Modern Times Bourbon Barrel Aged Monster’s Park with Cinnamon\, Cocoa Nibs\, Coconut and Piloncillo \nBEER INUSTRY GEEKS FLIGHT BATTLE\, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.\, Saturday\, Oct. 27\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, $12 each flight \nLINK: Peaks and Pints Second Anniversary Cool Camp Week\, Oct. 27-Nov. 1 \nLINK: Carnivale de Belgian Beerloo\, Oct. 28 \nLINK: Dark Knight Craft Beer Cave\, Oct. 29

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Fort George Brewery and Hoyt Smith
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Fort George Brewery and Hoyt Smith \nThe wide and impressive swath of brewery and band collaborations impresses Peaks and Pints. It’s not just Hanson’s MMMhops Pale Ale vying for our attention. An overwhelming number of brewers seem to favor heavy metal and IPAs (the list is endless)\, but as the idea continues to catch on\, mainstream pop and other musical genres have also started to find representation\, and the variety of styles has expanded. Phish\, Jimmy Eat World\, Guided by Voices\, Mumford and Sons\, Hoyt Smith\, Frank Turner and Hootie and the Blowfish have all jumped on the brewery bandwagon. \nHoyt Smith? \nIndeed. When homebrewer and Fort George Brewery sales executive for Washington state isn’t doling 3-Way IPA consolation hugs or explaining why people dressed in sci-fi costumes are buying up all the delicious Crysknife IPA\, Hoyt Smith is playing lead guitar for Seattle rock band Hounds of the Wild Hunt or spinning records in lounges. Smith brewed his wedding beer at the Astoria brewery and Peaks and Pints will tap it for our next SudsPop VIP Night Wednesday\, Oct. 17 — as well as be the musical guest. It’s true. Twenty SudsPop ticket holders will enjoy Girl Of My Dreams pale ale (think Fort George’s City of Dreams with apricots) while listening to Smith jump back and forth between lecturing on brewing beer and performing songs he’s played through the years. \n“I kind of geek out on the brewing process as I use to be a homebrew instructor\,” explains Smith. “I’ll also discuss Fort George’s brewing processes and beers — especially wild yeasts and bugs involved in our four new saisons we’ll be releasing. I’ll also bring my guitar and amp to take SudsPoppers on a musical journey from the past that might be relevant to their future.” \nThis will be the fifth Peaks and Pints SudsPop VIP Night. Each SudsPop event features a brewer\, an exclusive one-off beer brewed by the special guest brewer and a chosen artist or band in our East Wing events room. This will be the first time the brewer and musician will be the same person. \nPlease join us 7-9 p.m. Wednesday\, Oct. 17 in the Peaks and Pints East Wing for an incredible night of craft beer\, song and knowing Smith\, laughter. \nTickets are $14 plus tax\, which includes the special event beer\, nibbles from Peaks and Pints kitchen and\, of course\, all the beer education and music. There’s a limit of 20 people. Tickets are available at Peaks and Pints. \nPEAKS AND PINTS SUDSPOP: FORT GEORGE BREWERY AND HOYT SMITH\, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday\, Oct. 17\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, $14 presold

SUMMARY:GoodLife Brewing joins Peaks and Pints Lodge Meeting
DESCRIPTION:GoodLife Brewing joins Peaks and Pints Lodge Meeting \nPeaks and Pints hosts GoodLife Brewing at our next Lodge Meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Oct. 11. We’ll be pouring the award multiple GABF award-winning Sweet As Pacific Ale\, as well as G. Love’s Special Sauce dank IPA\, 2018 Reserve Saison aged 14 months in French oak barrels with Brettanomyces\, and 7 Year Anniversary Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with strong bourbon flavor\, chocolate and roasted malts. \nIncorporated in 2009 as Noble Brewing Co.\, Brewmaster Curt Plants\, Ty Barnett and Pratt Rather signed a lease in 2010 for the space it now occupies in Bend\, Oregon. In 2011\, just before opening their taproom\, they changed the name to GoodLife because plenty of businesses used the name Noble and they wanted to set their enterprise apart. That same year the new brewery was awarded the People’s Choice Award for its new Mountain Rescue Pale Ale at the Bend Brewfest. Sweet As Pacific Ale\, along with another one of the brewery’s early beers Descender IPA\, continues to enjoy mass appeal today. Plants passed away in 2017 at the age of 33. It hit the brewery hard\, obviously\, but Barnett restructured\, opened new markets and grew the brand\, always asking\, “What would Plants do?” \nIn addition to making beer\, GoodLife enjoys giving back to the community by supporting many local and national non-profit organizations. \nGoodLife’s motto is\, “Play hard\, live easy and enjoy GoodBeer for GoodLife!” \nNice. \nGOODLIFE BREWING LODGE MEETING\, 6 p.m. Thursday\, Oct. 11\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Tieton Organic Hard Cider Release Party
DESCRIPTION:Tieton Organic Hard Cider Release Party \nTieton Cider Works will release their Organic Hard Cider line in October\, with a release party at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Oct. 4 at Peaks and Pints bottle shop\, taproom and restaurant in Tacoma’s Proctor District. \nApples have been around for 50 million to 65 million years\, emerging right around the time dinosaurs went extinct and primates made their first appearance. For millions of years\, the trees reproduced without any human interference. When primates — and later\, early humans — encountered a new apple tree and bit into its fruit\, they never knew what they were going to get. What early humans did know was there wasn’t any pesticides\, manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilizers used to grow the apples. What they didn’t know was landscapes prosper as healthy soils are a major store of carbon\, containing three times as much as the atmosphere and five times as much as forests. \nEarly human didn’t know they were eating organically. \nTieton Cider Works has been growing apples in the Yakima Valley for three generations. Craig Campbell’s grandfather planted apple trees in the 1920s\, but it was until 2008 when he and his wife\, Sharon\, began growing cider apples on their Harmony Orchards in Tieton\, Washington. They launched Tieton Cider Works in 2009\, with the intent to maintain their practices of being good stewards of the land. In 2014\, their Tieton farmhouse couldn’t handle the growth so the Campbells opened a larger facility in Yakima\, yet maintained their mission of producing cider without shortcuts.s \nTieton Cider Works’ decision to make organic cider was driven by the Campbells’ love for nature — first and foremost they believed in looking after the countryside and working in harmony with nature; environmental consideration was placed firmly at the heart of the business\, not just in being organic but also creating a business in tune with the countryside\, its seasons\, ways and principles. \nJoin Tieton Cider Works for the release of their Organic Hard Cider Oct. 4 at Peaks and Pints. Discover that organic cider can taste dry and crisp\, slightly tart but well-balanced withy a fruity nose. \nTIETON ORGANIC HARD CIDER RELEASE PARTY\, 6 p.m.\, Thursday\, Oct. 4\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:The Last Blues Vespers After Party
DESCRIPTION:The Last Blues Vespers After Party \nThe evening music service known as Vespers can be found in many branches of Christianity.  There’s something particularly evocative about this service though\, since it seems to have originally been created to coincide with the setting sun\, with the light streaming through the stained glass windows of the church/cathedral.  But if it’s marking the closing of the day\, it must also then be acknowledging the coming of night\, and so historically the Vespers service has combined a kind of gentle\, reflective calm with an uneasy sense of foreboding.  In Anglican churches\, where the service is known simply as Evensong\, one of the prayers is a plea to the Lord to protect us “from the perils of the night.”  At Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Tacoma\, the monthly Sunday evening worship is known as Blues Vespers\, but only for a couple more nights. \nPastor Dave Brown is retiring. We’ll let that sink in for a moment. … \nIt’s true. Pastor Dave\, who has married live blues music with prayer at Immanuel for as long as we can remember\, is moving on to new adventures\, which means Blues Vespers will see a final curtain. It’s a real hit for blues music in Tacoma. Honored by the Washington Blues Society in 2004 with the “Keeping the Blues Alive” award\, Rev. Brown’s secular concerts of professional blues music rivaled the best blues shows in the state. \n“Blues music and its cousin\, gospel music\, often expresses in its words and music human joy\, longing\, passion and pain\,” states Pastor Dave on his church’s website. “An evening’s music reminds us that God is there for us in all of life\, often in the places where we are most human. Blues\, like many other forms of music\, can help express what we experience in life. At times music can be prayer. At other times God speaks to us as we listen and are entertained by the music. Musicians often find music a form of spiritual expression. With all that said\, there are times we simply enjoy listening to good music — which in itself is pretty nice and can nourish our souls.” \nIndeed. \nThe last local musicians Blues Vespers will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday\, Sept. 30 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. The Mark Riley Trio will headline. A guitar craftsman and veteran of such bands as Snake Oil\, Little Bill & The Bluenotes and The Mark Whitman Band\, Riley and crew play blistering blues. Other performers include Blues Vespers veterans Dean Reichert\, Tim Sherman\, Stacy Jones\, Randy Oxford\, Jay Mabin\, Kim Archer\, Forest Beutel and others. Part of the proceeds will go to support the Tacoma Creates Initiative to support access to Tacoma’s arts\, culture and heritage programs\, which Pastor Brown hold dear to his heart. \nPeaks and Pints will join Pastor Brown and his wife\, Ann\, in hosting an after party for the Sept. 30 Blues Vespers show. At 7 p.m.\, Kim Archer and Dean Reichert will pull double duty performing live at Peaks and Pints in Tacoma’s Proctor District. With all the musicians toasting Pastor Dave and Ann who knows what will go down musically. \nTHE LAST BLUES VESPERS AFTER PARTY\, 7 p.m. Sunday\, Sept. 30\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Son of Fresh Hoptoberfest
DESCRIPTION:From Sept. 1-31\, Peaks and Pints offers bright\, hop-hazy fresh-hop beers\, just hours from field to kettle and mere days from the fermenter to your glass AND clean\, hearty Oktoberfest-style lagers from Germany and nearby. We’ll wager our pretzel bread sticks you’ll drink both. \nYou see\, fall beer offers far more than nutmeg and allspice. Historically\, autumn was an important time for brewers. Before refrigeration and climate control\, fermentation in warmer months was unpredictable\, and brewing in the summer was more likely to yield an impure beer. In 1553\, a Bavarian law was passed that banned summer beer production altogether. \nThe result? Brewers ramped up in March\, brewing a strong\, malty lager that could last through the beerless summer months. That style became known as Märzen\, from the German word for March. Stored in cool caves and allowed to slowly ferment\, the crisp yet robust beer became a perfect transition into the colder fall months\, eventually fueling raucous Oktoberfest celebrations around the world. \nThese days\, a true Märzen is hard to find. But plenty of brewers take a crack at similar styles\, including festbiers\, maibocks and dunkels. Whatever the name\, a pint of malty\, dark lager is the perfect accompaniment for the changing seasons\, and Peaks and Pints will keep them on tap through September. \nFresh hops are another great gift of fall. Most of the year\, brewers coax flavor and aroma out of dried and pelleted hops. But in late summer and early fall\, when the precious hop cones are plump and fragrant\, many brewers experiment with fresh- (or “wet”-) hopped IPAs and pale ales. Straight from the fields\, fresh hops lend juicy\, earthy notes that are often compared to newly mown grass. \nUnlike Oktoberfest styles\, wet-hopped beer should be consumed as quickly as possible after brewing\, as all of those delicate nuances dissipate quite quickly. Peaks and Pints will also keep fresh hop beers on tap throughout September. \nPeaks and Pints will host daily a “toberfest” featuring fresh hop and Oktoberfest-ish beers through Sept 30\, with a different theme daily beginning at 11 a.m. \nSON OF FRESH HOPTOBERFEST\, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. through Sept. 30\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\,\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Elysian Pumpkin Road Show at Peaks and Pints
DESCRIPTION:Do you love pumpkin beer? Do you love a sweet\, malty\, gourd-based ale layered over with cinnamon\, clove\, nutmeg\, allspice\, ginger and maybe some honey? Would you wait up all night in a pumpkin patch with Linus and Lucy to taste a pumpkin imperial stout aged with ancho chilies in oak barrels? Then\, you’ll be thrilled to hear the Elysian Pumpkin Road Show at Peaks and Pints will rise Thursday\, Sept. 27. \nDuring the Elysian Pumpkin Road Show at Peaks and Pints\, the Seattle brewery will serve pumpkin beer out of an actual hollowed-out giant pumpkin flowing through two taps\, orange spheres will fly through the air into Solo Red Cups and a giant jar of pumpkin seeds will wait for the best count guess. \nNo\, we do not mess around with autumn celebrations here at Peaks and Pints. \nPeaks and Pints will host the annual Tacoma Elysian Pumpkin Road Show\, a prefunk to the Seattle brewery’s grand pumpkin affair that includes 80-plus pumpkin beers Oct.5-6 — the Elysian Great Pumpkin Beer Festival at the Seattle Center. Peaks and Pints will pour Elysian pumpkin beers Gourd Father pumpkin barleywine\, Black Galleons pumpkin imperial stout with chocolate and ancho chilies\, Goblin Party pumpkin milkshake IPA and Old Fashioned orange pumpkin strong ale. \nIn addition to the pumpkin beers\, we’ll present a pumpkin firkin\, pumpkin beer pong\, pumpkin seed guessing and giveaways\, including a pair of tickets to the Great Pumpkin Beer Festival in Seattle. \nFall has long been the season of the gourd. Pumpkins are the stars of spice lattes; pie and farmers grow them so large that they’re no longer measured in pounds\, but in tons. But the simplest pleasure when it comes to the pumpkin is — cue Billy Corgan — drinking gobs of them from a pint. \nELYSIAN PUMPKIN ROAD SHOW TACOMA\, 6 p.m. Thursday\, Sept. 27\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover
