This year’s event will look different due to the ongoing COVID-19 precautions. There are still events going on. They’re just smaller scale. In 2016, MIT graduates and friends Peter Oates and Ricardo Petroni opened Equilibrium Brewery in Middletown, New York. The two professional scientists became obsessed with New England hazy IPAs burning a path to Hill Farmstead Brewery and The Alchemist. Navy SEAL Sean Haggerty brewed his first batch of Protector Brewery beer in a five-gallon Gatorade cooler while serving in Iraq. It was 2010, and after patrols he craved a beer. The porter style originated in England as the popular preference of the porters who worked in the shipyards. The style, an ale, is commonly dated to the mid-to-early 1700s. The hefeweizen has been around a long time. Some beer historians say it was brewed as far back as the 11th century.
